Around Stockholm Old Town – Gamla Stan

The city of Stockholm in Sweden has a lot to offer people, both locals and visitors. If you want to go on vacation to Stockholm but don’t know what to do, there are many things you can enjoy in Stockholm. There are beautiful tourist spots, picturesque landscapes, historical sites, and exciting sports activities that we can all enjoy in this amazing city in Sweden.

Visit the famous old town of Stockholm, the Gamla stan, or what they call the Old Town. Stan comes from the word “staden”, which means city. Its name, as said, represents the characteristic of the city. It is an old town, dating back to the 13th century, and everything around it is contemporary. The streets and architecture have classical designs. Currently, around 3000 people live in this part of the city. This is a very good place to visit if you would rather enjoy medieval designs than some brilliant and intricate modern sights and structures.

Gamla stan is also the place where historical events occurred in Stockholm, including the famous Stockholm bloodbath. It is historical for the massacre of Swedish nobles carried out by order of King Christian III, a Danish king. This site in Gamla Stan is called Stotorget. Except for the site of the Stockholm bloodbath, the Stockholm Stock Exchange building is also located in this great square in Stockholm. Other architecture and buildings found here in Gamla Stan are the Royal Palace, the Noble Museum, and the Stockholm Cathedral, where the statue of Saint George and the Dragon was erected. They all have contemporary designs, especially the Royal Palace, which was designed in the Baroque style.

If you want to talk about finding restaurants, visit Den Glyden Freden. The interiors were not changed. It is still in its original state. It even got a page in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest restaurant.

The narrow streets of the Old City were made of cobblestones, which made it more attractive to tourists. Gives the feeling of being in the old days. There is the tourist street of Vasterlanggatan, formerly called the West Wall of Allmanninggatan, which is lined with tourist shops. These tourist shops sell different types of items and souvenirs. The street is mostly crowded in summer. There is no dull moment on this street because there are always artists and musicians performing on the streets to entertain people with their amazing acts.

There is the Marten Trotzig alley, which also has a rich history. As part of Gamla Stan, it is the narrowest alley in the city. This is where the difference in the ground levels of the Old City is very important. The people of the Old City celebrated the opening of the alley in 1945, as it had been closed for almost a century.

After an exhausting walk through Gamla Stan, head to the Branda Tomten. Branda Tomten is where tourists often go to rest. There are many large trees that offer fresh air and shade for a more comfortable rest. Branda Totem got its name from the history of the place. There was a house that was originally located in that part of Gamla Stan, but in 1728, the house was burnt down. That is why it is called Branda Totem, “the burned farm”.

Chile – A gay adventure in the South Pacific

When you think of vacation destinations in the South Pacific with beautiful beaches and a warm, clear blue ocean, Chile is probably not the first destination that comes to mind. Yet this long, narrow strip of coastal land wedged between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean —like a great snake— known as the Republic of Chile, has some of the most beautiful beaches in South America. and the capital The city of Santiago is very gay-friendly.

This narrow landmass is bordered by Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, plus the Drake Passage in the far south of the country and stretches 2,700 miles along the southwest coast of South America. It is only 150 miles deep at its widest point and the majestic Andes mountain range creates a natural border separating it from neighboring Argentina and Bolivia. But Chile’s diversity, from the arid northern land of the mighty Atacama Desert to the sprawling central river valley encompassing vineyards and farmland, plus the lush Lake District and to the south, the labyrinthine archipelago of the Patagonia, makes this a truly spectacular adventure vacation land. With more than fifty active volcano peaks, primeval forests and enchanting lakes, a temperate climate year-round, Chile is fast becoming the new eco-adventure destination of choice in South America.

Most visitors to Chile arrive in Santiago, the capital city, and from here it is easy to head to the different regions to enjoy a unique vacation. Furthermore, in Santiago and nearby Viña del Mar or Valparaíso you will also find the most extensive gay and gay-friendly highlights of this diverse country.

Over the last decade, homophobia has virtually disappeared in Chile, and same-sex relationships have been legal since 1998. The age of consent is eighteen, but sexual relations must take place in private so that they are not considered immoral or indecent conduct. . Currently, the Chilean Congress is considering a law allowing civil unions between same-sex couples, and several notable media celebrities have come out and declared their support for gay rights. This has led to an increase in the number of gay businesses, especially in Santiago.

Santiago’s urban renewal is evident as magnificent new office towers rise above beautiful century-old haciendas and Spanish colonial architecture. The CTC Telecommunications Tower is literally the world’s largest cell phone and dominates the Santiago skyline contrasting the nearby Bellavista neighborhood with the narrow streets, artsy boutiques of the city’s bohemian neighborhood. This is a very clean, safe city and offers many pleasant walks in the different tourist and residential neighborhoods or in the extensive public parks.

Any visit to Santiago must begin by riding the funicular to see the Statue of the Virgin at the top of the San Cristóbal hill and observe the city below. Many of the gay clubs and bars are located in the Barrio Bellavista at the foot of Cerro San Cristóbal. The closest Metro station is Baquedano in Plaza Italia from where you cross Avenida Providencia then cross the bridge over the Río Mapocho and you are in the Barrio. Local restaurants, colorful cafes, bars and nightclubs can be found here and is one of the most fun communities in Santiago for both straight and gay visitors. It is not a gay ghetto, but a truly integrated district. The other concentration of gay bars can be found in the city center a few steps from the beautiful Cerro Santa Lucía park and close to the pedestrian shopping streets. Recommended by some local residents for the neighborhood bar atmosphere are Bar Willy and Holandesa, plus Bokhara, Bunker and Fausto are worth visiting for late-night clubbing. The clubs don’t usually start until 1:30 in the morning and then the party can last until dawn.

Whether you start your day early to explore or sleep in until noon, the city of Santiago has plenty to offer for sightseeing and entertainment. The Chilean Museum of Pre-Columbian Art is the best museum in Santiago, with a beautifully presented collection of pre-Hispanic art gathered from across the South American continent. Highlights include elaborate Mesoamerican incense burners, Andean textiles dating back 3,000 years, and Mayan carvings, not to be missed for any reason. Or you can try a freshly-arrived seafood lunch at the majestic Mercado Central, surrounded by market stalls brimming with glistening sea bass and salmon, buckets of oysters, mussels or salt-crusted clams. La Chascona is the former home of Pablo Neruda — the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet — which is packed with strange and beautiful objects, from Victorian dolls and African carvings to music boxes and paperweights. Preserved as a museum, it is a fascinating visit. Without a doubt, the best place to go for souvenirs is the lively Los Dominicos market, where you will find a wide variety of beautiful handicrafts, as well as antiques, books, fossils, a restaurant and live music with dancing on the weekends. In addition, the many Spanish palaces, castles and historical buildings are a photographer’s dream come true.

After a few days in the capital city, it’s worth venturing to the Pacific coast to enjoy the ocean and more of a resort-style vacation. A short fifteen dollar, two and a half hour bus ride will take you to the old port city of Valparaiso. This will feel like going back in time to enjoy the old world charm of a true Chilean fishing and maritime port. The historic buildings and the open-air market where the locals gather remain unchanged for centuries. Local restaurants and bars will serve authentic local dishes to delight any discerning palate. Potato chips—fries— are a Chilean specialty, particularly in a dish called Chorillana where potatoes are combined with eggs, onions, beef, and chorizo. Just remember that the ketchup comes in a green container and the hot sauce in a red container! Here in Valparaíso you will also find the modern building of the Congress that is the seat of the government of the country. Walking around the city is a very relaxing and fascinating way to spend a day or two.

And now it’s probably time to stretch out on the beach and relax. A short fifteen minute local bus ride from Valparaíso is the resort town of Viña del Mar—Vineyard By The Sea— where luxury hotels, rental apartments, and bed and breakfasts line the Pacific Ocean promenade. Here is located one of the largest gaming palaces in Chile —the Municipal Casino— which includes a five-star hotel, nightclub and gourmet restaurant.

Also known as the Garden City with numerous parks and more than 2.5 miles of sandy beaches, Viña del Mar is a popular tourist city where visitors enjoy warm summers, beautiful fall colors, luscious spring flowers, and spectacular sunsets all year long. anus. Three beaches are frequented by tourists and local GLBT residents — Caleta Abarca, Los Marineros, and Las Salinas — the latter is popular with local marines! And if you’re wondering about the “Vina” in the name, then you’re in for a treat when you try the local vintages Chile is becoming famous for. This spa is perfect for disconnecting and living an authentic Chilean vacation.

Accommodations throughout Chile range from backpacker retreats to modern luxury hotels and everything in between, all at very reasonable prices. However, exclusively gay accommodation is hard to find. In Santiago, the gay-friendly Hotel La Foresta is perfectly located in the heart of the city, close to GLBT nightlife and on the edge of Cerro Santa Lucía park. The rooms are spacious, cheap, and the staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the gay scene. The Castle Hotel is a gay guest house built in 1920 with an interior designed like a castle and located next to the Bokhara nightclub. The rooms are cheap if you like to be right where the nighttime, and sometimes daytime, action is rife.

It is important to note that Canadian visitors to Chile must purchase an entry visa for a cost of approximately $120.00 (credit cards accepted) that is valid for the duration of your passport. However, this entry fee is more than offset by the very low cost of living and extremely cheap dining and entertainment throughout Chile.

So, in the longest and narrowest country in the world, famous for copper, salmon and fine wines, prepare for a uniquely gay South American experience and a Pacific Coast vacation filled with uniquely gay and Latino memories.

Venice Restaurant – Bacaro Jazz

How many restaurants are there in Venice? Hard to count, but considering that more than 3.5 million tourists visit Venice every year, you can easily imagine that the restaurant business in Venice can be very profitable, hence the huge market. Venice restaurants originally specialized only in seafood cuisine, but have now differentiated to include an eclectic variety of offerings; from Chinese to Indian restaurants, passing through the fashionable nouvelle cooking, Arab and Japanese cuisine, Venice tries to resemble the big metropolises where you can find all kinds of food;

Of all the Restaurants in Venice, Bacaro Jazz is probably the most original and innovative; together with one of the latest and best open kitchens in Venice, guarantees excellent satisfaction for every customer. Open since December 1997, Alfredo, Nicole and staff have made Bacaro Jazz one of Venice’s must-see restaurants and attractions; Over the years, the restaurant has continuously renovated the kitchen and the decoration of the restaurant; once it opened, it looked like a typical Venetian “trattoria”, where locals drank “ombre” (glasses of house wine) and ate “cicchetti” (Venetian tapas appetizers); the owner Alfredo had another idea for the place and through continuous improvements and revolutions of the Menu and decoration, today it has one of the best Venetian and international cuisines in Venice recommended by the most prestigious travel and restaurant guides;

The restaurant and cocktail bar is open from 4 pm to 3 am and features the last open kitchen in Venice; the Bacaro Jazz menu offers a delicious smorgasbord of local dishes; some of the highlights are Saor and salt cod, Venetian-style pasta and beans with boiled salami and cuttlefish in black ink sauce with polenta; It also offers International Cuisine in which the raw beef carpaccio with balsamic vinegar and Parmesan cheese, the red chicory tagliatelle with duck sauce and aromatic herbs and the white sea bass fillet wrapped in raw ham in tomato sauce with stewed onion stand out. Don’t forget to accompany your meal with a good bottle of wine; you can choose from a Brunello di Montalcino to a tasty Valpolicella for red or a fresh Malvasia if you choose white wine;

Happy hour begins at 4:00 pm and guests can sample two from a great selection of long drinks and cocktails for the price of one. At Bacaro Jazz you can enjoy the fabulous Frabellini drink, the traditional Bellini with a sweet addition of Fragolino; when the shadows begin to cover the city this bar in Venice begins to fill its high chairs and the chattering customers will order a Mojito cocktail, a Coffee Martini, the homemade “Sex & Sax” and a wide variety of spirits and long drinks; for couples who want some privacy, they will sit down since the restaurant opens its doors to the bar from 11 pm;

The jazz music filling the air couldn’t be more appropriate for this late-night restaurant in Venice; dim lights, table candles and wall posters of the greatest jazz masters, give Bacaro Jazz a unique and memorable atmosphere; the decor is truly unique, drawings and customer testimonials adorn the walls; but if you look up at the ceiling you’ll see something like 500 bras dangling! There are several myths about how the “let yourself hold” started, if you’re lucky, Alfredo will share the secret with you; now, every time a customer drops off a bra, they get a very nice t-shirt that says “I left my bra at Bacaro Jazz and I only have this t-shirt left.”

Should I take a break from dating?

Sometimes we need a break from dating. A “pause” is a break in something that normally has continuity. You may have heard this term in conjunction with TV shows: “The show is on hiatus until filming begins for the next season.” That means the actors and crew will be taking a break until work starts again.

brick wall

So how do you know it’s time to consider a dating hiatus? It’s when you’ve been dating for many months or years and still don’t seem any closer to meeting the right person than when you started. It’s when you’ve been dating a succession of people but nothing of substance is developing with any of them. Are you starting to feel like you’re banging your head against a brick wall? You will feel better if you simply decide to STOP.

You have yourself in a rut. You keep the same things going to meet new people, but every relationship ends and goes nowhere. You are starting to feel so frustrated that it is affecting your relationships with family and friends. You are moody and negative most of the time. You are losing hope of finding someone to love and becoming cynical and sarcastic about your future. Instead of moving forward, you’re going to plummet.

Before you let this mood deteriorate into total depression, there’s one thing you can do to change it: take a break! If you’re on a losing streak and it keeps getting worse instead of better, then do what any smart coach does for a player in that situation. Get out of the game for a while.

break the pattern

When what you’ve been doing just isn’t working, it’s time to stop, break the pattern, and do something different. If you are slipping into a state of misery and frustration, this may be the time when you feel unhappy enough to consider doing some personal growth and spiritual work. Sad but true, most of us don’t take steps to change until the pain of changing is less than the pain of staying the same.

This is the time when you are most motivated to find a connection to God, Spirit, Higher Power, or whatever you call the invisible force that created our world. This is the time when you are most open to learning a new way of thinking and a new set of principles to believe and live by that will put you out of your misery and put you back in charge of your life.

If this is how you are today, don’t beat yourself up for not having found the love relationship you so desire. Even the best boxer in the world sometimes has to go down before he can get back up and start fighting again. Give yourself a break and take a break from the dating scene.

pausing

Once you make up your mind and decide that you are going to take a break from dating, you will immediately start to feel a little better. That’s because you’ve taken control of your life again and stopped looking for someone else to make you feel good. The next time a well-meaning friend asks you who you’re dating, you don’t have to feel like a loser or a second-class citizen because you’re alone. You can just say, “Oh, I’m on hiatus right now. I’ve decided not to date for a while.” It is a choice you have made, not an unwanted situation you find yourself in. You are in control and you feel better!

Now is the time to take that class you’ve been meaning to take, start going to church, find a therapist, counselor, or support group. Read a book or two on spiritual principles, study the Bible or other scriptures that interest you. Go back to your religious roots or explore a different philosophy that intrigues you. Try a yoga, meditation, or dance class. Take the hours and hours you used to spend online on dating sites and invest them in yourself.

Before I met my husband, I took a two-year hiatus and did exactly what I suggest you do. That’s why I know it works. What a relief it was to get out of the “look, look, always look” mentality of most singles. I took out my “singles antenna” that was always on the lookout for any man that might be a possibility. I stopped making decisions about whether to go to any event based on how many single men might be there. I accepted my single status and enjoyed all the good things about it.

making changes

I delved into the universal spiritual principles taught in Unity and Religious Science churches and discovered that it actually had the power to change the way I think and what I believe. I created a whole new life for myself and learned to be happy and complete as a single person. I let the old feelings of “not good enough” fade away and replaced them with believing and knowing that my happiness did not depend on having a partner.

Also, I realized that holding on to resentments from the past can prevent you from attracting good things into your life today. Learning to release bitterness and resentment is a necessary step, but one that many people are not willing to take. If you’re having a hard time finding and keeping a good partner today, chances are some anger about a buried past hurt in you is part of the cause.

You don’t have to “forgive” and pretend that whatever they did wasn’t wrong, but unless you release those angry feelings and stop paying attention to them, you will never be free of their influence. Doing this emotional labor may not be much fun, and you may resent the fact that you have to do it! But if you have the courage, you can find a way, and it will make a world of difference in your next relationship. I can swear by that.

When I was secure in knowing that I am enough and don’t need anyone else to be happy, I was able to go back to dating and attracting a great partner in less than a year. It turns out that the solution to the problem was inside me. Once I released my old resentments and learned to appreciate all the good things in my life, I attracted some really good men into my life. I am now happily married to a man who is a perfect match for me.

This dating hiatus idea may seem too radical and extreme to you right now. However, the more people you date and the more unhappy you become, the more it starts to make sense to you. If all you do is take a break for a while, but do nothing to make the necessary changes within yourself during that time, then you can’t expect to get better results when you start dating again. A dating break only works if you work it!

How long?

How long should it take? There are no hard and fast rules about this. It all depends on how much change and growth you need before it can produce a different result for you. My guess would be a minimum of six months to an average of several years.

Sounds impossible to you right now? If you can’t stand the thought of not dating for six months, then you’re in a precarious state of mind, depending too much on being in a relationship to feel good. A dating break might be just what you need, but you may not be ready to accept it just yet. It requires patience and the determination to keep going for as long as it takes. In our instant gratification, quick-fix culture, people don’t like to hear this, but it’s the truth.

Let these ideas sink and roll in your subconscious for a while. Few people will jump up in glee after reading this and yell, “Yeah, I’m going on a hiatus from dating tomorrow!” Give it some time and when the time is right for you (or when you are miserable and frustrated enough), you will know. When done with the right motivation, a break from dating coupled with some personal growth work can be your ticket to a better future. You’ll be back in the dating game with a real chance of winning next time.

Pinot Grigio Wine: Why the Wine Experts Are Wrong

Pinot Grigio white wines are the wines the professional wine community hates the most. Frowned upon by wine connoisseurs, and particularly by those who want to be conceived of as a wine connoisseur, these wines are frequently used as an example of how masses of uneducated wine buyers will buy anything regardless of quality. So what has Pinot Grigio done to get such a bad reputation? And is it somehow deserved?

The popularity of Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio is the second best-selling white wine in the US, second only to Chardonnay, and its popularity is growing. You and I and an increasing number of ordinary people really enjoy our glass of Pinot Grigio. It is a very popular wine and being popular is not a quality wine snobs hold in high regard. They much prefer their wines to be exclusive and ideally only known to a select few. Therefore, winemakers and people who consider themselves to be connoisseurs of fine wines are always critical of these wines. Personally, I have been given a cold stare by the wine butler when ordering a Pinot Grigio at a big-name restaurant. It was almost as if he took my order as a personal insult, and he obviously thought his extensive wine list was completely wasted on someone like me.

So why the bad reputation?

So is there any valid reason for this contempt? Well yes and no. There is no denying that there are quite a few bland and uninteresting wines out there. When not carefully cultivated and treated only as a quick wine to market, the wines can be bland, boring, and uninteresting. The grapes ripen early and there is a temptation for growers to harvest the grapes early when more time on the vines would have added to the depth and spice of the final wine. Some Italian growers are also known to over-harvest their soil and therefore produce inferior quality wines.

However, this is not a fault with the grape itself, and it could easily be argued that there are many inferior Pinot Noir wines out there on the markup, despite the fact that the Pinot Noir grape is a critical favorite. Comparing the two grapes, they are indeed remarkably similar. This is not so surprising when you consider that the Pinot Grigio grape is a mutation of the original Pinot Noir grape.

So, judging by the grapes alone, there’s clearly no reason why Pinot Grigio shouldn’t be liked more than any other wine. But there is something else that has tarnished the reputation of these wines, and it is the Santa Margarita. In the United States, Santa Margarita is synonymous with Pinot Grigio wine. It defines what these wines are supposed to be, and is one of the most recognized brands in the world of wine. But is it the best of these wines? Not even remotely. In my opinion, there are dozens of better and more exciting wines for those who dare to try something new.

Hidden gems for those who dare to try

Grapes are greatly affected by both the climate where they are grown and the production methods used by their viticulturists, so the characteristics of the wines vary greatly from one place to another. A wine from Alsace is very different from a wine from northern Italy. And a fruity New Zealand wine can be very different from the California variety.

The truth is, there are many dedicated, hard-working winemakers who pride themselves on producing wines that can match the best Chardonnay or Riesling wines. Do you want any proof? Then treat yourself to a bottle of Collis Orientali from Italy’s Fruili Pinot Grigio, or perhaps an Oregon Evesham Wood Pinot Gris Estate, and I think you’ll have to agree with me.

Predictability and novelty in the classroom: you need a balance of both

Walking through the halls of a school, you can look around the classrooms and you will notice many variations in the atmosphere and the levels of interest and enthusiasm. In some classes there is very little energy. Both the students and the teacher are dragging and listless. In other classes, the noise level is loud and both the students and the teacher seem a bit unsure about what is supposed to be going on. What is the difference between these rooms? The best classes seem to be those that have a balance between routines and fun and unusual activities.

What should be predictable in your classroom? What students need to feel comfortable in their environment. What do you need to have a suitable teaching environment? There are several things that you and your students need to be able to rely on. They need to know that you are prepared with a worthwhile lesson, that you are in control of the classroom at all times, and that you will not embarrass or humiliate them. You also need to be able to count on certain predictable factors from your students every day. You trust your students to be respectful, cooperative, well-behaved, and willing to do whatever you ask. You know this will be the case because you spent time upfront at the beginning of the year training these behaviors.

Isn’t all that predictable stuff boring? No. In order for you to present interesting and engaging lessons, everyone needs to understand your role. Students need to know what you and other students expect of them. The teacher needs to know what the students expect. Lack of predictability in these elements equals chaos. Your classroom management system always runs just below the surface of your classroom. This is what allows students to feel safe enough to participate and take risks.

Where does the novelty fit? Good classroom management allows you to take some risks and trust your students’ ability to meet new challenges. You can totally change your classroom and know that your students will adapt quickly.

With younger children, novelty can be scary (which is why so many toddlers cry when they see Santa Claus or a clown), so think your lesson through. Make sure they feel safe before you throw them a curveball with something new. You will also need to spend time framing the activity so they are prepared.

Teenagers, on the other hand, crave novelty. One of the reasons school bores them is that they are held back by the rote and predictable nature of many of their classes. Doing something unexpected or very different from his normal style will get his attention. Remember that you cannot be new all the time. If novelty exists all the time, it is no longer novelty!

Ideally, your classroom should be a mix of the expected and the unexpected. If there is too much predictability, students will get bored. If there is too much unpredictability, students will not be able to relax and chaos can ensue. To brainstorm novelty ideas, think like a student when looking at your lesson plan. If you were a student in this class, what kinds of things would you expect the teacher to do? What would make it fun for you? Thinking like a kid can help you create great lesson plans! Often it’s just in presentation.

Talking about the Roman Colosseum, I took my class to the track field. I told them the measurements of that field and the height of the stands. Then I gave them the dimensions of the Colosseum and we put people in different areas to show the size. This had several benefits. The students did some exercise that increases their cognitive functioning. They were doing something different by going out into the street. They were able to visualize how big the Colosseum really was by seeing the size compared to the athletic field. This is not a transcendental activity, but it qualifies as novel.

Novelty just means doing something different from time to time. Something that will catch children off guard. If they never really know what you’re going to do next, they’ll pay much more attention in class. Predictability for safety, novelty for fun and excitement. As Martha Stewart would say, “It’s a good thing!”

Calm high conflict upset people with EAR

Everybody gets angry sometimes. High conflict people get angry most of the time. A simple technique called the “EAR Statement” can help you calm others down. This is especially helpful if you have a close relationship or a position of authority. High conflict people tend to emotionally attack those closest to them and those in authority, especially when they are frustrated and cannot handle their own emotions. The intensity of their uncontrolled emotions can really catch you off guard. But if you practice making EAR statements, you can connect with annoying people and usually help them calm down.

EAR Statements for High Conflict Persons
EAR stands for Empathy, Attention and Respect. It’s the opposite of what you feel like you give someone when he or she is upset and verbally lashes out at you! However, you will be surprised how effective this is when she does it right. An EAR Statement connects with the person’s experience, with their feelings. For example, suppose someone verbally attacks you for not returning a phone call as quickly as she would have liked. “You don’t respect me! You don’t care how long I have to wait to solve this problem! You’re not doing your job!”

Instead of defending yourself, give the person an EAR Statement like, “Wow, I can hear how upset you are. Tell me what’s going on. I share your concerns about this issue and respect your efforts to resolve it.”

This statement included:

EMPATHY: “I can hear how upset you are.”
WARNING: “Tell me what’s going on.”
RESPECT: “I respect your efforts.”

The importance of empathy
Empathy is different from sympathy. Having empathy for someone means that you can feel the pain and frustration they are feeling, and you have probably felt similar feelings in your own life. These are normal human emotions and are usually triggered in people close to you because emotions are contagious. When you show empathy for another person, you are treating them as a caring partner who you can relate to as an equal in distress.

Sympathy is when you see someone else in a bad situation that you are not in. You can feel sorry for them and sympathize or pity them, but it’s often a one-up, one-down situation. There is more of a gap between those who give sympathy and those who receive it.

But you don’t even have to use the word “empathy” to make a statement showing empathy. Here are some examples: “I can see how important this is to you.” “I understand that this can be frustrating.” “I know this process can be confusing.” .””I’d like to help you if I can.””Let’s see if we can figure this out together.”

The importance of attention
Getting attention is one of the most important concerns of high conflict people. They often feel ignored or disrespected and get into conflict as a way to get the attention of those around them. Many have a lifetime history of alienating the people around them, so they look to others—professionals, friends, and new acquaintances—for attention. However, they are rarely satisfied and keep trying to get more attention. If you show that you are willing to give your full attention for a while, they often calm down.

There are many ways to let a person know that you are paying attention. For example, you can say:

“I’ll listen as carefully as I can.”
“I will pay attention to your concerns.”
“Tell me what’s going on.”
“Tell me more!”

You can also show care in non-verbal ways, such as:

Have good “eye contact” (keep your eyes focused on the person)
Nod your head up and down to show that you are attentive to their concerns.
Lean in to pay more attention
Put your hand close to them, such as on the table next to them.
(Be careful not to touch an upset HCP directly – it can be misinterpreted as a threat, innuendo, or put-down)

The importance of respect
Anyone in distress, and especially healthcare professionals, need the respect of others. Even the most difficult and annoying person often has some quality that you can respect. By recognizing that quality, you can calm a person who is desperate for respect. Many high conflict people are used to being disrespected and being independent and “not needing others.” This characteristic often leads them into conflict with those around them, who do not wish to see them as superior and are tempted to try to put them down. This only makes the HCP even more annoyed. Here are several statements that show respect:

“I can see that you are a hard worker.”
“I respect your commitment to resolve this issue.”
“I respect your efforts on this.” “I respect your success in achieving ____________.”
“You have important skills that we need here.”
Why EAR is so important for people in high conflict

Annoying people, especially people with high conflict, may not get empathy, attention, and respect anywhere else. They have usually alienated most of the people around them. It’s the last thing anyone wants to give them. They are used to being rejected, abandoned, insulted, ignored, and disrespected by those around them. They are hungry for empathy, care and respect. They are looking for it anywhere they can get it. So just give it to him. It’s free and you don’t sacrifice anything. You can still set boundaries, deliver bad news, and maintain a social or professional distance. It just means that you can connect with them to solve a particular problem and treat them as an equal human being, whether you agree or strongly disagree with their part of the problem.

Many healthcare professionals also have difficulty controlling their own emotions. Since brain researchers have learned that we “mirror” the emotional expressions of others, it makes sense to respond to upsetting people calmly and realistically, so that they mirror us, rather than us mirroring their state. upset mood (which is what most people do most of the time, and it only makes things worse).

Manage your tonsil
Of course, this is the opposite of what we feel like doing. You may think to yourself, “There’s no way I’m going to listen to this after the way I’ve been verbally attacked!” But that’s just your amygdala talking, in an effort to protect you from danger. Our brains are very sensitive to threats, especially our tonsils (you have one in the middle of your right brain and one in the middle of your left). Most people, while growing up, learn to manage their amygdala’s impulsive and protective responses and override them with a rational analysis of the situation, using their behind-the-forehead prefrontal context.

In fact, that’s a lot of what adolescence is all about: learning what a crisis is that needs an instant protective response (amygdala), and learning what situations aren’t a crisis and instead need a calm, rational response (prefrontal cortex). High-conflict people often experienced abuse or entitlement growing up, and did not have the secure, balanced connection needed to learn these emotional self-management skills. So you can help them by helping yourself not to overreact. Just use your own prefrontal cortex to manage your own amygdala, which will help the annoying person to manage theirs.

It’s not about you!
To help you stay calm in the face of the other person’s upset, remind yourself “it’s not about you!” Don’t take it personally. It is about the person’s own discomfort and the lack of sufficient skills to manage their own emotions. Try making EAR statements and you will find that they often end the attack and calm the person down. This is especially true for high conflict people (HCPs) who regularly have a hard time calming down. All of the above EAR statements are reassuring statements. They let the other person know that you want to connect with him or her, instead of threatening him or her. It’s their problem and you don’t have to defend yourself or explain yourself. It’s not about you!

What to Avoid About EAR Don’t Lie: Annoying people are often hypersensitive to lies. If you really can’t empathize with the person, find something you can respect that they did. If you really can’t respect the person, just pay attention. You can always say, “Tell me more.” This calms the person down, because she tells her that you will listen to her without you needing to convince her to do so. If your body language shows that you’re open to listening, most upset people will feel better and calm down enough to tell you what’s going on.

You don’t have to listen forever: EAR doesn’t mean just listening. It is a statement in response to the person’s upset mood, which you can use at any time. It can help you wrap up a conversation, if you need to do something else. High conflict people are notorious for talking non-stop. Keep in mind that high-conflict people often don’t get a sense of relief from telling their story or talking about their pain—they’ve told it too many times, and it’s stuck. Often, they are stuck trying to get empathy, attention, and respect from others, so if you just give them an EAR statement, they may not feel the need to keep talking or talk as long. You can interrupt an annoying person most of the time, telling them how you can empathize with and respect them.

EAR doesn’t mean you agree or disagree: Giving your empathy, care, and respect helps you connect with an annoying person as a human being. It does not mean that you agree or disagree with his point of view. Too often, people get stuck arguing over a “problem.” But with high conflict people “the problem isn’t the problem” it’s their inability to manage their own emotions and sometimes their behavior. If you are asked if you agree or disagree, simply explain that you care or want to help.

Maintain an “arms’ distance” relationship: Giving your empathy, attention, and respect to an upset person doesn’t mean you have to be close. You can still maintain a professional relationship, a co-worker relationship, a neighbor relationship, etc. In fact, it’s wise not to get too close to a high-conflict person, so you don’t raise your expectations that they’ll take responsibility for your well-being or plan to spend more time together than you intend.

Conclusion Everyone gets angry sometimes. You don’t have to be a high conflict person to be upset. In times of trauma, anger, and sadness, we really need the human connection of knowing that someone has empathy for us, is paying attention to us, and still respects us. You can give anyone an EAR statement to help calm them down. Nothing in this article is meant to mean that only HCPs get angry.

Making EAR statements, or nonverbally showing empathy, care, and respect, can help you defuse or avoid many potentially conflicting situations. It can save you time, money, and emotional energy for years to come. But it takes a lot of practice. You can start calming high conflict people today!

Everything you need to know about brain cancer

Abnormal cell formation within the brain often results in a brain tumor. Brain tumors are of two types: benign tumors and malignant/cancerous tumors. This means that all brain tumors are not cancerous but only the malignant type.

Malignant tumors are further divided into primary tumors that form within the brain and secondary tumors that originate in other parts of the body. The latter type is also termed as brain metastasis tumors.

Risk factor’s

A risk factor is anything that may increase the chance of developing a brain tumor. While risk factors have a role to play in its development, most of them don’t actually cause it. People with several risk factors may never develop a brain tumor, while those with none do.

Some of the common risk factors are:

  • Age: Although brain tumors are common in older adults and children, anyone can develop them at any age.
  • Gender: Men are more likely to develop brain cancer than women; although certain types, for example, meningioma, are common only in women.
  • Exhibitions: The risk of developing brain tumors increases when exposed to pesticides, solvents, rubber, vinyl chloride, and petroleum products.
  • Family history: About 5% of brain tumors can occur due to hereditary factors, such as neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis, and Li-Fraumeni syndrome.
  • Seizures and head injuries: Severe head injuries often result in the development of brain tumors.

Symptoms

The symptoms of brain tumors vary depending on the type of tumor and its size, location, and rate of growth. The usual symptoms include:

  • severe headaches

  • seizures

  • vomiting

  • Weakness

  • Nausea

  • sensory changes

  • memory changes

  • vision changes

  • Difficulty to sleep

Diagnosis

Doctors follow many testing procedures to diagnose a brain tumor and its type. They also do tests to identify whether or not the tumor has spread to another part of the body, known as metastasis.

Doctors consider the following when deciding on the type of diagnostic test:

  • The signs and symptoms of the patient.

  • The age and health status of the patient.

  • The type of suspected tumor.

Doctors perform different types of tests depending on the factors mentioned above. Some of these include:

  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): It is used to get a detailed picture of the body and measure the size of the tumor. If a tumor is detected, tumor tissue is collected by surgery or biopsy to identify its type.
  • computed tomography: Unlike an MRI that uses a magnetic field, a CT scan provides a 3D image of the body through X-rays. It helps identify bleeding within the brain and bone changes within the skull.
  • Lumbar puncture: In this procedure, doctors take a sample of CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) through a needle to identify tumor cells or biomarkers. Biomarkers are substances found in the urine, spinal fluid, or other fluids of people with a certain type of cancer.
  • Vision, neurological and hearing tests: These tests are done to determine whether or not the tumor is affecting how the brain works.

Treatment

When a brain tumor is diagnosed, a medical team is formed to determine possible treatment options. There are a few treatment options available to get rid of it, including:

  • Surgery: It consists of removing the tumor partially or totally.
  • Chemotherapy: Drugs are given here to kill tumor cells, although they can have side effects.
  • Radiotherapy: This is the most common treatment option where the tumor is destroyed with gamma rays or x-rays.

Finally, brain cancer must be treated immediately after diagnosis to prevent long-term physical disabilities and even death.

The Mystical Town of Bellapais

Standing in a sheltered position and appearing almost stuck to the side of the Kyrenia mountain range, the facade of Bellapais Abbey is the distant sight that first fascinates visitors and draws them to explore this fascinating ancient Cypriot village. Now, in the Turkish part of the island, in Northern Cyprus, Bellapais has an interesting history, but it is the atmosphere of the place that continues to attract people, and not just the atmosphere in the abbey, but the whole town.

Surprisingly little is known of its early history, but it is likely that the abbey site was first occupied and that the village grew up around it. It has been suggested that the first construction could have dated to the 7th or 8th century, however the first documented occupation and construction on the site was by religious leaders who had fled Jerusalem in the late 12th century. The site offered them many benefits. If it was difficult to reach and almost impossible to do without being seen, it was also relatively easy to protect. In addition, its location on the mountainside guaranteed a reasonable supply of water and respite from the hotter weather. Originally called Belle Paix Abbey (the abbey of peace), this was gradually shortened to the present form.

Like Cyprus as a whole, Bellapais went through many changes under many rulers over the centuries. Although looted not infrequently, often just for building materials, the Abbey today is still in a remarkable state of preservation and still forms the heart of the village. In fact, it is now used as a stage for art exhibitions and concerts, and the annual Bellapais Music Festival attracts artists from around the world. However, anyone visiting the abbey should also spend a little time wandering the small streets around it. Winding in seemingly every direction, each twist and turn brings new views of ancient buildings and occasional glimpses of the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean. Most of the property here is still residential, although the small square and area around the abbey are home to several restaurants and small shops.

Apart from the abbey, Bellapais is probably best known for being the home for a time of author Lawrence Durrell, and the seemingly forever home of what is known as ‘the Tree of Idleness’. Durrell bought a house on one of the steep back streets, and it remains there to this day. He lovingly and amusingly wrote about his time here in the novel The Bitter Lemons of Cyprus, and the Tree of Idleness is mentioned many times. The tree itself has the magical property that anyone who sits and drinks under its branches will be “forever consumed by idleness.” The tree also has the magical property that no one is really sure of its location and since there are two trees that claim to be the genuine article, at least two restaurants have areas where you should presumably only sit if you plan on retiring!

Today, despite being somewhat ‘touristy’, Bellapais retains quite a remarkable atmosphere. The abbey seems to emanate an almost physical sense of peace and tranquility that seems to spread to its surroundings. Even in the restaurants and shops, there is a feeling that life is something to be savored and not rushed, and a meal here in the evening can be quite spectacular as the abbey is lit up at night and forms a stunning backdrop. background for a quiet dining experience. .

There are many reasons to choose a holiday in Northern Cyprus, but a visit to Bellapais should definitely not be missed if you do.
