Does your dog have intestinal problems?

Bowel problems can manifest as a lot of gas, diarrhea, and possibly blood. This can also come under the heading of digestive problems. The saying that “Life and Death” begin in the colon. That not only applies to humans, but also to dogs.

Many dogs lead a very uncomfortable daily life with these digestive problems. They have cramps, pain, and cannot fully digest their food. Sometimes it passes through them after they have eaten.

I have a lot of experience in this area as I had a Yorkie who had these problems for almost 14 years. The vet never suggested anything.

When he had severe diarrhea, I gave him small doses of kaopectate with a syringe. He always had soft stools, never constipated, but sometimes a mucous substance passed, it gleamed like jelly. I was always afraid that he would die when he was a puppy. He heard these loud gurgling coming from his intestinal area. When they started, I wouldn’t eat anything until that happened. I came home one day from shopping and there was bleeding all over the house. There was so much blood that I was surprised that he was still alive. It came on suddenly. We ran to the vet, who was out of hours, at 6 in the afternoon. She was anything but helpful. She gave him a couple of injections and said to go see my regular vet the next day. He charged $ 80.00.

His diet was always very good, as I cook at home for all my dogs. Sometimes diet can lead to diarrhea and other problems.

Some vets prescribe medications that don’t work, so it’s really up to you to try and learn as much as you can about your dog’s condition. Nobody knows your dog as well as you.

At the time, he didn’t know what was wrong. I have since realized that I could have helped him more with his intestinal problems, instead of turning to Kaopectate. Dogs can’t tell you when they have a stomachache. They just seem to keep going as best they can, but if you know what to look for and how to help your dog, both of you will be happier. I wish I had known about products that could have helped my Yorkie.

All my dogs are currently healthy and I am pleased to say that none of them have intestinal problems.
