What is backlinking and why should you understand it?

What is a backlink?

If you’re new to the world of internet marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), or building your own website, you may have heard the buzzwords ‘back linking’ or ‘link farms’. Chances are, you really have no idea what these words really mean.

I’m going to break it down in a simple and straightforward way. First of all, I cannot begin to stress the importance of high-quality backlinking. This is one of the main factors that Google looks at when ranking your website. You need to ensure that the links pointing to your website are focused on what your website sells and that these links come from industry leaders and industry authorities in your general area of expertise.

If you were to consider the Internet as a true democracy, the more people like you, the more they will talk about you. If they talk about you a lot and keep referring to other people, then you must be an authority in your particular field.

Experts generally have a very good idea of their topic, and based on how well they communicate this topic to others in the field, they will then be referred to other people as experts in that field. People will start talking about them and then refer their friends to those same experts. If you were to apply this to the Internet, it would be called backlinking: effectively, every time a web page is created, your name is mentioned, and there is a link from your name to your website, you have a backlink. .

If you repair cars and someone in the cosmetics industry talks about you, this may be flattering but not entirely relevant. If, on the other hand, other car enthusiasts are talking about the great tips you’ve put on your website and they themselves are recognized as experts in the car industry, your authority on the world wide web increases proportionately.

If your authority reaches a level where you get cited, anything you create after that immediately gains recognition and will proceed to move up the rankings very quickly. To take your internet marketing efforts much further, you should check Google’s rules regarding new and original content. In short, your content should be insightful and engaging. If you write irrelevant garbage, Google won’t share your content because the people reading it won’t pay attention. As a result, Google will realize that your content does not help the person reading it, in which case you are not relevant and therefore definitely not an authority.

Building back links to your website is not an easy task. No matter what, don’t fall into the trap of paying someone to build links for you. This is because they can use illegal search engine optimization techniques (techniques and tactics that don’t adhere to important SEO rules) to build back links that will do you more harm than good in the long run. Always remember that you need traffic to your website that will convert into business. It is not good to have 3 million unique visitors to your website and they are all women looking for cosmetics when you are, in fact, repairing cars. With that being said, and without sounding too sexist, it could be very good for your business to have all these women bring their cars to you for inspection!
