Oxford beef recipe

The Classic Beef Oxford recipe is one of my all-time favorites. It’s a really hearty meal for the whole family or if you have guests to enjoy as it’s so simple and it won’t take you long once you get all the ingredients for the Beef Oxford recipe to go.

The ingredients that are here for the Beef Oxford are for 4-6 people.

3 pounds of steak to cook

1.5o flour

2 oz dripping

Salt and ground pepper

8 oz peeled and sliced onions (1 large or 2 medium onion)

2 garlic gloves

4 oz mushrooms, cleaned and sliced

1 green bell pepper, sliced

2 tablespoons apricot jam

1/2 pint of red wine

1/2 beef broth

Cooking time 2-2.5 hours

1. Cut the meat into chunks, put it in a polybag or intestine with the flour and stir until coated.

2. Melt the fat in a skillet and fry the meat quickly until browned.

3. Add all remaining ingredients, including leftover flour, gut

4. Cover and simmer 2 to 2.5 hours or until meat is tender.

5. Make sure to stir it from time to time.

Variations of Beef Oxford include:

New Potatoes – To fill up your Oxford meat dish a bit, why not add halved new potatoes to the pot after about half an hour? Be sure to keep an eye on the level of revival, as you may need more as it starts to taper off.

Sultana’s: If you like sweets, you can add a handful of saltanas after about half an hour, be sure to buy good quality ones as they contain more juice.

Mushrooms: The Beef Oxford Recipe does not specify which mushrooms to use. Chestnuts are probably the best, but you can try others (Oyster, Shittake). If you use the chestnut mushrooms, keep them whole as they reduce a lot in size once cooked and make the dish thicker.

Beef Broth: To make this dish more special, you can buy ready-to-use quality beef broth available in all supermarkets now. This will give the dish more flair and add flavors making it richer.

Beef Steaks – Why not try stewing whole pieces of beef steak (one for each person) rather than cut up smaller pieces? This may cost a bit more, but it would be great if you have guests.
