Horse Racing: How Not To Have A Get-Some-For-Nothing Attitude And Learn To Profit

How not to have a get something for nothing attitude in racing is a necessary lesson for all players in the game. Not all players have this feeling or thought pattern. But it’s good to be reminded. If you want to make money in the game as a player, then you need to see that there is no free lunch. (so to speak) in the races. Most players will trivialize this and downplay it to the tune of “how I lost my bankroll at the races” or “I went to play the horses but the horses played me.” Why?

Because racing is not a push game and you must act together to earn money by design. That means learning advanced loss of profit and advanced handicap. This is not a philosophy that is given to you in the sense that you can have a rebuttal or debate and see things the other way and win the argument. Trying to get something for nothing in racing is one of the first painful things you will learn and you will never try to do so. Racing has taught many players (many players) the error of such thinking. It takes money to make money at horse racing and there is no line of credit on the track. If you play, you will spend money even ten cents.

Running in the United States is roughly 85% legitimate and roughly 15% corrupt. Even the corrupt don’t seek something for nothing and neither should you. If you think you are going to easily win the pick-six and get $ 100,000 in a breeze you are going to be taught a lesson in humility. You can make money in racing by design and not just by luck, but you have to work towards it. This means that the player has come into the game with a realistic state of mind. That doesn’t make the game an easy win automatically.

You have to work for profit in racing like everyone else. Talking about this may seem boring and trivial, but it is not. You come into the game with a: how can I get something for nothing? LOOK CLOSELY. If so, that is one of the main reasons you will lose. That is wanting something for nothing and it will not happen to anyone. Don’t try to beat the races, learn its structure and follow it. Do not try outwit the track because the track gets its benefit (to take or cut) before each race ends. Instead, play like you are a business man or woman and how horse racing is business in every way. Don’t gamble, invest. This is, in part, how not to have a get-something-for-nothing attitude in racing.
