Fluorescent clothing and neon clothing – 80s fashion or costumes?

Fluorine clothing or neon clothing, depending on where you are from, is undoubtedly coming back into fashion.

This means that the article is not just about 80s costumes, however, I guess there will be some people who will keep neon clothes as an 80s costume idea, only!

Neon clothing is so much fun and it’s really awesome to wear under black lights at raves, nightclubs, and discos.

I read comments from a social commentator somewhere, that fluorescent clothing is becoming popular, as we are looking for ways to have fun and be a little crazy, in these financially difficult times with the global financial crisis. Sounds good to me!

So the fact that fluro is making a comeback on the fashion table, and the fact that neon yellow and fluro orange are associated with high visibility safety clothing, means that you should be able to easily find clothing from neon to wear

Just walk through your local mall. I don’t think you’ll find much in thrift stores or charity shops, except maybe high-visibility work-related clothing.

On this note, Bonds clothing sells neon yellow trucker tank tops in packs of 3. I see this in people when they go to cricket, or sports, and dress up.

For me, neon clothes started to become very big in 1984, almost at the same time that the Madonna look was also very popular. This is also when Wham’s George Michael released “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go!”, in all its fluro neon fashion glory!

Roller skating was also massive, so we loved to dress in white and fluorine, under the black lights of the disco.

The 80’s jerseys were white and had a nice image of an 80’s design on the front, with the colors highlighted in fluro.

How to wear your fluorine socks

My all time favorite with fluro though was the fluro socks. You had to buy all the colors. Bright cyan blue, lime green, yellow, hot pink, and orange.

To wear them to the best of your ability, and just because you could, wear two pairs on top of each other and lift them up.

Then lower the top sock on each leg. Now, lower the second sock of each leg.

Don’t worry too much about making sure the colors match.

They can all mismatch if you want. this meant it didn’t matter if you couldn’t find a matching pair in the wash.

It could be complicated, for example, with fluro pink / fluro green on one side and fluro green / fluro pink on the other.

So when you look at someone, the colors would match adjacently, not identical.
