Decorate your kitchen at a low price

Are you bored of your kitchen? You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to give it a little face lift. Just follow these tips and you’ll make big changes on a small budget.

Need a colorful window treatment? Just buy an inexpensive basswood screen and paint it a bright color. You can use a partially dry brush and paint haphazardly for an aged look.

Paint your walls a bright sunny yellow and randomly paint some areas a deeper yellow, dark peach, and terracotta. Mix the paints with a glazing fluid and wipe each layer with a damp cloth before the paint dries.

Paint your old cabinets with a few coats of paint using a dry brush. You can buy automotive pinstripe tape and apply it just below the trim for an attractive accent.

Using a fabric panel with velcro fastening tape to create skirting around the under-counter areas. You can cover up old appliances like dishwashers and worn-out cabinets with a new, colorful curtain that hangs below the edge of the countertops.

Use your mismatched plates and mugs to decorate a stylish rack hanging on your kitchen wall. Brightly colored plates and hanging teacups are cute decorations.

Use your precious family photos to decorate a shelf or a corner. You can use cheap photo frames and a cute shelf as an expression of your home and life.

If your countertops aren’t what they used to be, remove the old surface and replace it with colorful, mismatched tiles that you can buy for next to nothing at a discount home goods store. If the countertops are not level, use a piece of plywood to level the surface before laying the tiles.

If your fridge has seen better days, have a local supplier cut a slate to fit the front and glue it directly to the surface of your fridge. Use pine boards for a border and you’ll have your own personal memo center on your fridge.

Decorating your kitchen does not have to be expensive. With a little imagination and a little work you can turn even the dullest kitchen into a work of art. Colored curtains and paint will make a world of difference in any kitchen. It doesn’t matter how small or dark the space is.
