A brief history of Indian catering services

We Indians take great pride in bragging about our weddings. The lights, the flowers, the clothes, the jewelry and the FOOD! We have seen many new changes in Indian weddings in recent years. ‘Once upon a time’ the same food was served at every wedding (such as puri, sabji, chicken, dal, rice, jalebi, gulab jamun etc.), now, people go for the truth. Everyone wants something new. Indian wedding caterers have to give something unique to each of their clients.

Now times are changing and Indian caterers have to go the extra mile to meet the ever-changing demands. There is a new breed of catering service providers competing with each other to be the best in the market and earn the respect and admiration of their customers. Indian catering business has an annual growth rate of up to 20% as it is a must for any event be it a wedding, meetings, business meetings etc. This Rs.15,000 crore industry has never shown any sign of weakness in the market and it doesn’t seem like it ever will.

Indian carters have different levels of operation which are:-

1) Primary level – This is the lowest level of catering, which means they handle low-key events like small weddings, small parties, etc. Net income at this level is high as there is a low asset requirement and less monitoring is required.

2) Secondary level: At this level, the business is mainly done by organizing large weddings, college festivals, concerts, etc. the market margin at this level is moderate.

3) Tertiary level:-This is the most exclusive and expensive level of operation. These people dominate the market with their big weddings, exclusive parties, fashion shows, etc. they maintain the market with high profits and the glamor associated with them.

This industry is all about food and drinks ranging from traditional food like paneer (cottage cheese), dal, rice, roti, sweets etc. to high class themed events consisting of a variety of cuisines. Indian caterers pay special attention to the quality of food and hygienic conditions. Indian wedding caterers provide their clients with different options of serving methods; one has the option of going to a traditional wedding or buffet style. Indian caterers provide their customers with different cuisines that vary depending on the area the customer belongs to. Indian wedding caterers have a booming business ahead of their future and they are sure to not disappoint anyone.
