Old World Style Kitchen Designs

With the advent of new styles and modern conveniences, today’s kitchens have undergone a complete transformation. Along with the electrical appliances, the assemblies of the tiles, boards and countertops in the kitchen have also been renovated. Even so, there are certain people who prefer to give their kitchens an authentic and traditional look and therefore Old World style kitchens have been successful in holding their ground.

Old World kitchens were designed in a unique way. They were typically heavily decorated with distinctive door styles, layered finishes, and stacked with trim to provide a visual feast. The most commonly used wood for Old World furniture was oak or cherry. Old World style kitchen accessories included copper poles, baskets, chopping boards, crocks, and antique serving pieces. The floors were made of tiles or wood finishes. The wood and tile finish differed in the level of darkness, wear, sanding, paint, and edging. Kitchen walls have been painted with faux, stucco, or textured finishes. The hardware was filled with hammered aged iron parts and heavy bulky parts. Kitchen designs typically consist of hearth-style kitchen hubs, loose cabinets, and tables that serve as islands, but have large open storage areas.

Old World-style kitchens incorporated crown molding in large combinations of stacked molding, crown post, large arches, or beamed ceilings. The countertops of this type of kitchen were preferably in any of the three options of stone, rustic tile and wood.

Old World style kitchens were more suited to large, large homes and were not affordable styles for small homes. The original beauty of these kitchens can still be seen in some houses, which were built in the 19th century. They are often called kitchens from the Middle Ages because of the old-fashioned, old-fashioned feel they give to the entire house.
