On the contrary, strong leadership can transform a mediocre group into a viable, aggressive and successful organization.

Managers have a leadership role because they can influence the behavior of members of the formal work group. This does not mean that managers are always effective in the leadership role. A manager’s leadership can be measured by the group’s contribution toward the organization’s goals. For example, the leadership of a software engineering manager can be measured by how quickly a product goes from concept to market; a process commonly referred to as “time to market”. Other such measures include higher profit margins and customer satisfaction.

Generally, there are two types of leaders in organizations: formal and informal. Formal leadership is exercised by people appointed or elected to positions of formal authority in organizations. Authority, which exists in the formal organization, is the right to issue directives and spend resources. A first-level manager is an example of a person who is appointed to a formal leadership position. The first-level manager influences others in the formal work group simply because of the nature of her position.

Informal leadership is exercised by people who emerge as influential over others due to special skills or resources they possess to meet the needs of a work unit or its members. In other words, the informal leader of a group is the one the group considers most capable of satisfying its needs. The informal leader’s authority may be removed, reduced, or increased, depending on the group’s perceived progress toward its goals. The informal leader’s authority may be threatened by the emergence of different or additional goals.

It is important to note that managers (formal leaders) may or may not be informal leaders. The role of a manager and the role of an informal leader are different. In an informal leadership situation, the leader must know the needs of the group and must be seen by the group as the person best able to meet those needs. The source of authority for the leader is the group she leads. In most organizations, a manager’s (formal leader) source of authority does not come from the group she leads; comes from top management. This implies that the source of authority for a manager comes from vertical rather than horizontal organizational means.

In conclusion, it is important to differentiate between leadership and management. The two are not identical. Leaders lead people and managers manage situations. Managers must realize that leadership is a function of management and that the title of “Manager” does not mean that he or she is a leader by default.

Rally Driving – 2012 Expert Cup – WA State Rally Championship

Demonstrating the popularity of the Wellington Dam forest roads, the 2012 Experts Cup Rally had a good field. 35 teams from the State Rally Championship (WARC) and 9 teams from the Clubman Rally Series (Clubman Cup) traveled to Collie in the southwestern states for round 3 of the respective championships. The Experts Cup was again a full pace rally and used 4 special stages which were repeated for a total competitive distance of just over 115km.

Much earlier because I lined up at the first time control, the organizers had a lot of work ahead of them. Logging operations in the forest, coupled with some severe storms in the area, had made some of the marked paths for the stages literally impassable. Fallen trees and other debris had to be quickly cleared by organizers and volunteers to allow the route to be ready for the start of reconnaissance on Saturday morning.

The rally started as planned in mid-afternoon in dry weather. Leading the field was Lee McIlroy/Ash Ridden in his Spec C WRX. Being the first because on the way is usually a disadvantage. The first couple of cars act as a road sweeper, removing loose top layer from the surface for subsequent cars, and also provide braking guidance and corner lines. In this case, McIlroy/Ridden drove well in the first two stages despite road position, posting stage times in the top 3.

In SS2, Gavin Morgan/Chris Parish were the first to duel on the slippery clay surface. The pair were just outside the top 3 on leg one and were running well in their Spec C WRX when an altercation with the scenery damaged the Subaru too much to continue. The retirement continued a run of bad luck for the team who had just cured an electrical gremlin that had forced retirement on two previous rallies.

SS2 also caused complaints from brothers Mark and Steve Davies. The boys lost 3rd gear on stage two before their WRX transmission stuck in 2nd gear on SS3 and forced an early retirement. The duo were understandably despondent after strong results at the Forest and Donnelly rallies earlier this year. Brett Tolomei and Owain Thomas also retired in SS2 when their Mazda 323 Familia succumbed to mechanical problems.

When the crews returned for the first service, it was apparent that the loose conditions were already showing scars on some cars. Even seasoned competitors had struggled to hold on in places. McIlroy/Ridden were going to find out just how loose the roads were in SS3. On a left turn, the pair slid slightly into a window and jammed the car on a small stump. Despite a great effort, the car could not be recovered and they both knew their career was over. Anthony Chudleigh/Matthew Hare (Hyundai Excel) found the stage in SS3, retiring with damaged front suspension and Lea Welch/Justin Smith retired in SS4 with a gearbox problem in her V8 Ford Falcon.

Although the weather had been dry all day, it was not hot. As the day progressed into late afternoon and early evening, the temperature dropped rapidly. The weather definitely favored the turbocharged cars and tire wear was not a major issue either.

SS6 would see the end of the Ford/Holden V8 battle with zero. Kiel Douglas/Anthony Paynter (Holden Commodore) found the same spot on the same corner that McIlroy/Ridden had found earlier. This time, however, the orange Commodore would go straight off the road and find the stump, causing some suspension damage and recall. SS6 also saw the retirement of Rainer Offermann/Tim Lennon. The team had a brush with the landscape in SS5 and in SS6 the lights on their WRX were not up to the challenge of the night stages which forced them to retire.

The rally had been eventful for many competitors, some of whom had thrown everything in the event to simply finish. Carlos Deltoro/Darren Wiese had front suspension problems for most of the rally which kept their service crew entertained and Julian Wright/Niall Doherty seemed to be struggling in their Datsun 1200. Returning after a long break from racing, Duncan Leighton with Marc Louden alongside pulled off some impressive midship panel damage in their Ford MK1, and John Farrell/Chris Randell also found the stage in their WRX.

In the Expert cup a new time arrangement was tested in parallel to the traditional system. Through the use of transponders fitted to each car, a series of receivers throughout the stages and in the service park allowed for faster collection of stage times. The top ten battle-weary were inside.

John Clinton/Shaun Brennan took their Lancer Evo 9 to 10th place behind Dylan King/Andrew Hannigan (Ford) in 9th place. A big battle with King/Hannigan resulted in Blair Pugh/Paul Helm taking 1st 2WD and 8th in their Ford. Steve Oxley/Michael Wood took his current Impreza STI to seventh behind Garry Whittle/Ryan Doe (WRX) in sixth. Before the rally started, Whittle/Doe were unsure if they could start the event with a suspected coolant leak. Fortunately, their service team fixed the issue and allowed the pair to compete and finish in the top 10. John O’Dowd/Ben Searcy (Spec C WRX) provided another steady push to take fifth place and add to their WARC points run. Alex Stone/Hanna Drury (WRX) led most of the rally. In SS7 a faulty turbo intervened and dropped them from 1st to 4th. The finish allowed enough points to hold a WARC lead. Third place went to Doug Tostevin and Tammy Adams in their WRX. The pair had been consistent within the top 6 stage times all day and were the only team to win an Expert Cup trophy in 2012. Travis White/Greg Flood had their own struggles to overcome during the rally. The pair had it all figured out on the final stage, setting the fastest time and taking their PWRC-spec Lancer Evo 9 to second place. The gap between second and third place was very narrow at just 6 seconds. Leigh Hynes/Stuart Percival used their “charge hard early” strategy to try to gain an advantage. A spin in SS2 and a busy day for the service team showed that their pace under the conditions was on the limit. With Stone/Drury out of contention for the last two stages, Hynes/Percival could ease the pace enough to allow a straight run to the finish and the 1st place trophy.

Drunk driving can ruin your career

Although you won’t find “job loss” in Washington state DUI laws, a drunk driving arrest can have a devastating impact on your continued employment. If you need to drive to get to work, or must drive to do your job, a DUI arrest in Washington state sets in motion two ways you can suffer from the loss of your license:

(1) administratively at the hands of the Department of Licensing

(2) by court action if you are subsequently convicted of DUI.

In the state of Washington, when a breath test was taken and the result was .08 or higher, the Department of Licensing will attempt to administratively suspend your license even if you are not charged with the crime of DUI. In most cases, you will be eligible to apply for an ignition interlock license, but this requires you to drive (with few exceptions) only if the vehicle you are driving has an ignition interlock device installed.

There is an exception to the ignition interlock law that allows you to drive an employer’s vehicle, if the job requires it, without an ignition interlock. The application for this can be found on various websites, including the Fox Bowman Duarte website.

An ignition lock means your car will not start if alcohol is present, and the horn will sound and the lights will flash if alcohol is detected while driving. The employment implications of this in-car breath-testing device are ominous for salespeople requiring customer interaction: Few potential customers are impressed by a salesperson who drives a vehicle with an ignition interlock.

Beyond this, people who must travel for business and then must rent cars at destination outlets will not be able to rent cars for as long as an ignition lock is required, which will affect the ability to travel for business. Currently, no car rental agencies are known to have ignition interlock equipped vehicles in their fleets.

Criminal penalties:

Brushing your Jack Russell not only makes him look and feel better, it should also become part of your dog’s physiological and psychological health routine. In the most basic ways, grooming your terrier involves bathing him, brushing his coat, and clipping his nails. Of course, checking your terrier’s ears, sockets, eyes, and paws should also be part of the grooming routine. In this article, I would like to highlight the 3 basic and important tasks for grooming your Jack Russell.

Important Grooming Task 1: Bathing Your Terrier

If you are bathing your Jack Russell in a bathtub, place a rubber mat in there so he has a secure footing. If not, place a towel in your sink for similar purposes. If you’re not the careful type, place cotton balls in each ear to prevent water from getting into their ears.

You will start by rinsing your terrier with warm water. Make sure not to use a strong spray on your dog if he is using a spray. Adjust the spray speed before use and keep your spray close to your dog. Remember not to spray on your terrier’s face. Once your dog’s coat is wet, apply small amounts of dog shampoo. Start from the head and end at the tail. Make sure you apply the shampoo well to all areas, including your rectum, behind your ears, between your toes, and under your chin. Once you are done with the shampoo, rinse everything off and then dry your terrier with a towel or blow dryer.

Important Grooming Tasks 2 – Trim Your Terrier’s Nails

To trim your terrier’s nail, you’ll need to sit your dog facing you. Starting with its front paws, gently place the paw in your hand and use a dog clipper to trim its nails. Remember not to use a human clipper as dog nails are generally tougher and tougher than human nails. Keep in mind that some dogs may be used to having their nails trimmed. So if you start clipping when your dog is a puppy, it may be easier for them as they are already used to it.

Important Grooming Task 3 – Brushing Your Jack Russell’s Coat

Ideally, you should brush your terrier’s coat every day. This should be quite easy as the Jack Russell has shorter coats compared to other breeds. Brushing your Jack Russell’s coat regularly helps keep it in good condition. By brushing your hair, you are also spreading the natural oils and this can help prevent tangling and tangling. Brushing also helps keep your terrier clean, as brushing removes dirt stuck to the coat. The other added benefit of brushing is that if there are ticks attached to your terrier, you may notice the ticks jumping because of the brushing.

Sustainable agriculture means that everything that is grown, raised and cultivated on the farm is consumed by the inhabitants of the farm themselves. They are living off the land and providing all the food they need for their own consumption. In other words, they are pretty self-sufficient when it comes to what they eat. Therefore, you will often hear sustainable farming and self-sufficiency farming used interchangeably as they are the same thing. The size of the land they own is usually, but not always, quite small, compared to more commercially oriented farmers. Therefore, you will often hear these small farms referred to as mini farms.

Commercial farming, on the other hand, is where you grow crops and raise livestock for others in order to earn some money. It’s not that farming is a lucrative business to get rich, it’s not, but being a commercial farmer you farm with the intention of having an already known market, the knowledge of what the current prices are for your crops and animals and what niche market will give them a profit, both now and in the future.

The fundamental principle of sustainable agriculture: land management

First of all, as already mentioned, you don’t need a large piece of land to be self-sufficient. So how small is small? Well, one can become quite happily self-sufficient on an acre of land. An acre of land can be used to create a mini farm that will happily lead to self-sufficiency. However, because it is possible to practice self-sufficiency on small farms, land management becomes crucial. This then becomes the most important principle for sustainable farming and the creation of your mini farm. The key, of course, is in the word itself. sustainableit means to keep something going. If the land you use to farm is poorly managed, you will never be able to keep crops or animals at an acceptable level of productivity. Which will end up with sick and diseased plants and animals and your hopes of self-sufficiency will not be fulfilled.

Owning a mini farm, there needs to be a balance between the animals and the plants because ideally you want to create a food chain where each feeds each other. You need the manure from the animals to enrich the soil so that the soil can produce good crops, which in turn will go back to feeding the animals.
