Long Beach Hotels

Queen Mary Hotel Reviews

If spending the night in a prison isn’t creepy enough, try spending the night in a haunted hotel / ship, the Queen Mary. This WWII ocean liner and troop carrier has a haunted history. One of the most haunted areas on the ship is the top-notch pool that is no longer in use. Women in vintage bathing suits have been seen wandering around and mysteriously wet footprints have been found leading from the terrace to the changing rooms. The luxury ship / hotel offers more than ghosts, but historical tours, multiple world-class dining options, cabaret shows, a comedy club, spas, and suites too. For $ 459 you can spend the night in one of the enchanted cabins, but are you brave enough?

Spending the night here will not be as spooky as the Queen Mary, unless you are afraid of heights and birds. As the name implies, there are a large number of parrots, as well as hundreds of other birds, making it a prime destination for bird watching. The giant iguanas are also another friendly visitor to the garden. Breakfast and dinner are also included with your tree house room for just $ 40-50 per night, making this a budget hotel with resort qualities. I hope you are not afraid of the wild.

Heceta Head Lighthouse: on the cliffs

Yachats Hotels

If spending the night in a tree house was too high, try spending the night in a lighthouse perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Heceta Head Lighthouse is over a hundred years old and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world. Heceta is also the brightest lighthouse in Seattle, shedding light 21 miles out to sea. The Queen Ann-style caretaker’s house has been renovated into a bed and breakfast where guests can view the lighthouse at night, a unique opportunity. Casinos in Arkansas

The state of Arkansas is a southern state with a population of nearly 3 million. The capital of Arkansas is Little Rock, where one of the Arkansas casinos is located. The state of Arkansas is the only US state with an official pronunciation (ar-kan-SAW) and the only state where diamonds are naturally found. There are not a large number of casinos in Arkansas, but visitors to Arkansas can find gambling in various locations around the state.

A popular Arkansas casino is Cherokee Casino in Siloam Springs. This 50,000 square foot casino is open 24 hours a day and features a restaurant and bar with live music. This Arkansas casino features 813 electronic gaming machines and more than 40 tables for card games, roulette, craps and more, including 19 poker tables. An interesting feature of Cherokee Casino is that they offer poker games that are played against other players rather than against the house. Cherokee Casino is an Arkansas casino worth visiting.

Another Arkansas casino, located on Holiday Island, is Spinzz Casino. This Arkansas casino was closed due to gambling law disputes, but has recently reopened. Guests visiting Spinzz Casino can stay at the nearby Spinzz Casino Hotel to stay close to the action.

Although there aren’t many casinos in Arkansas, there is one city with a rich casino history, which is also the childhood hometown of former President Clinton. Hot Springs, Arkansas, in addition to being famous for its 140-degree natural mineral springs, was one of America’s original “sin cities.” The city was a gathering place for gangsters, but instead of shootouts and clashes, crime families like the Nittis and Capons came to Hot Springs to sit and talk. Historic Arkansas casinos abounded in Hot Springs, and despite their “illegal” designation, city residents insisted that the casinos were good for business. In its heyday, Hot Springs served as a mecca for gambling and tourists flocked to the colorful Arkansas casinos that lined its streets.

Today there are fewer options for Arkansas casinos. However, players looking for some great casino action can visit the exciting Cherokee Casino or the centrally located Spinzz Casino. Of course, Arkansas online casinos are always a great option for anyone! Despite limited availability, Arkansas casinos have a long and rich history and should not be overlooked by casino fans and casual gamblers. Visit an Arkansas Casino Today!

The art of tipping in Punta Cana

When you are on vacation, it is sometimes difficult to know how to tip. Who should I tip? When and how much should you tip? Usually these are the questions I hear from tourists traveling to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

People who work in tourism in Punta Cana often receive a relatively small basic salary, supplemented by tips and sales commissions (for example, excursions). These hardworking people are used to receiving and often expect to receive a tip for their services.

If you want to be fully prepared to tip from the moment you arrive in Punta Cana, it would be a good idea to make sure you have plenty of small US dollar bills. When you have arrived in Punta Cana, you can always exchange larger USD bills for smaller bills or withdraw money in local currency (i.e. Dominican pesos) from any ATM. One dollar is approximately 40 Dominican pesos.

Arriving at the airport:

It all begins when you arrive at the Punta Cana airport. You will be greeted by friendly porters / bellboys who are ready to help you locate and carry your luggage from the baggage claim area to the car or bus that will take you to your resort. The porter expects to receive USD 1 per bag, or a little more if your luggage is very heavy or you have a lot.

At the resort:

When you arrive at the resort, you can tip the driver if you think they have been driving well, have been friendly, and are generally satisfied with their services. Typically, you should tip 10-15% of the trip price, which in most cases would be approx. USD 3-5 if your resort is located in Punta Cana or Bávaro (within 10-30 minutes from the airport).

When you arrive at the resort, a bellboy, who will assist you with your luggage, will greet you. You can tip USD 1 per bag if you bring your luggage to your room.

It is always a good idea to tip the housekeeper, who cleans your room, either at the beginning of your vacation or during your vacation. Typically, you should tip the housekeeper about $ 2 a day and leave the money on the bed, where it will surely find it.

At some point during your Punta Cana vacation, you will most likely need the help of the concierge, for example making dinner reservations. A tip of around USD 5-10 for your help will go a long way, and you may experience that a table in the restaurant, which was originally full, is now available to you at any time you want. You may also experience that something that was suddenly completely impossible to obtain becomes “no problem.”

Waiters and bartenders are sure to appreciate your tip. You can leave a larger tip of approx. USD 10-20 at the beginning of your vacation (then you will surely never forget it) or small tips during your vacation (eg USD 1-2 every time you get great service).

On an excursion or on the golf course:

If you are going on an excursion while on vacation in Punta Cana, it is recommended that you bring money for tips to the tour guide. Typically, you will share the tips with the driver and / or other tour personnel. If you’ve had a good time, you can easily drop $ 2-3 on a half-day tour and $ 5 on a full-day tour. If you have taken a private tour with a private driver or tour guide, you need to leave a larger tip, for example USD 10.

If you are a golfer and you are going to play on one of the courses in Punta Cana or Casa de Campo where caddies are mandatory (Punta Espada, Corales, or Teeth of the Dog), you normally have to pay a caddy fee of USD 25-30 per the car. Typically, you will need to have one caddy per golf cart with 2 people. Aside from the caddy fee, a tip of $ 15-20 per person is expected, depending on how satisfied you have been with the caddy or how well you played … and your good mood after the round.

If someone cleans their golf clubs and / or shoes after the round, they should tip them $ 3-5.

At the local restaurant:

If you decide to go out to eat at one of the local restaurants in Punta Cana, you should bear in mind that there is usually a 10% tip already included in your bill (by law). In most places, you are expected to tip an additional 5-10% of the amount on your bill if you are satisfied with the food and service.

It may seem like you can hardly walk without throwing money and tips left and right. Don’t despair – if all else fails and you must have doubts, follow your frame of mind. If you have been satisfied with the service they have provided, and you have nothing to complain about, then the best way to show your appreciation is by leaving a tip for the people who have served you.

Happy Holidays!

Use of natural stone to enhance the dining experience

It is a serious problem in many hotels that offer the appeal of an entertaining nightlife. Customers come to play but they go to eat. It is not enough to serve tasty dishes, smart hotels must also provide the right atmosphere. After all, “atmosphere is everything.” Lodging establishments looking to retain their customers’ appetites and wallets only need to look to a trendy New Jersey hotel / resort for the answer.

In July 2003, the most resplendent adornment on the Atlantic City scene was unveiled; The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. Like a peacock among pigeons, this luxurious Northeast landmark has been elegantly erected in full plumage, welcoming visitors from all over the world. Boardwalk or bayside, The Borgata offers a different experience to any of its new neighbors. But after adding a group of 5-star restaurants, there was a need to improve the dining experience for these fine restaurants and other entertainment areas. The answer was set in stone. The decision was made to hire several high-profile design teams to implement natural stone floors, walls, service counters, kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities. From an aesthetic perspective, the use of natural stone for walls and floors would significantly increase the beauty and prestige of the restaurants, and offer a dining experience like no other in the city.

Unique materials

To complete this project, the design teams first had to source no fewer than 20 different types of rare stones, including Calacatta marble combined with books, Azul Macauba marble wall panels, chiseled and flamed Pompeii granite, lava stone, and mosaics. personalized, among others. . To meet this need, the stones were imported from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Chile and China. The project also required 20,000 square feet of stone.

Challenges

Regarding design, working with stone or any natural material can become a challenge. The colors and patterns are completely unique from stone to stone. For those looking for a wealth of style and color options, working with a company that has access to quarries in various parts of the world is paramount.

A walk to one of the restaurants reveals the brown brown granite and white Arabescato marble elegantly bathing both the floor and the wall, creating an impeccably epicurean dining environment. In another restaurant, the floors are made of chiseled and flamed Pompeii granite and the bathroom walls are lined with an elaborate and very rare custom ceramic and wood mosaic.

The way to elegance

Borgata’s decision to incorporate the beauty and elegance of natural stone to enhance the aesthetic ambience pays off over time, with greater and more relevant patronage, and also goes a long way toward strengthening the integrity of the brand. Natural stone is a unique design material because it is exotic, malleable, and most of all, mysterious. Its cool surface can be polished in various ways to give different interpretations of its character and composition. Because of these simple facts, it has been, and always will be, associated with high-level experience.

Indian Food 101

Indian food and Indian restaurants are common in many parts of the world, but in my pocket the world seems to be few and far between. I realized that many Americans may not be used to Indian food; what to order in an Indian restaurant or the correct way to eat Indian food. Since I grew up eating Indian food, it’s natural for me to break up my naan and soak up the delicious curry. This is why I wanted to put together a short article outlining some common Indian dishes and what you may want to order in an Indian restaurant. Hope this encourages you to try Indian food.

Most likely it starts with courtesy poppadoms. They are like very thin cookies, but much larger. There are usually 3 accompanying sauces or chutneys poppadoms, a lime green sauce made with spicy coriander, a very sweet dark brown sauce (save a little for later, I’ll tell you why in a moment), and a mango chutney that is very good but quite spicy.

Appetizers:

You most likely see Samosas on a snack menu in Indian restaurants. These are a safe option as they are full of flavor but not spicy. They are triangular cakes that are filled with potatoes, peas, and other vegetables. The sweet brown hot sauce I told you to keep goes great with these.

Main courses:

Tandoori: Tandoori is always a safe option. This is not a hot and spicy dish at all. It also doesn’t have thick sauce. It is simply cooked in a clay oven known as Tandoori, hence the name. Don’t be scared by the color. It will come out with a red color especially if you order the chicken. It seems a little weird but it tastes great.

Biryani: (Pronounced beer-e-ani) Think of Biryani as the Indian version of Chinese fried rice. It is rice with vegetables (usually with raisins) with the meat of your choice. Lamb Biryani is really good. It really goes well with any meat. I probably wouldn’t recommend getting Biryani with shrimp. Again, this is another safe option, as it will not be a spicy dish.

Curry: This is really a thick sauce filled with cumin, garlic, tamarind, and a ton of other flavorful spices made to order. Curry is by far the best known Indian dish. I like it with beef, lamb, chicken, or shrimp.

seasoning: It is a creamy tomato sauce that is very tasty. It’s usually not too spicy, but you should ask just to be safe. One of my favorites at the Indian restaurant is Chicken Tikka Masala. In fact, I read somewhere that Chicken Tikka Masala is the number one most ordered dish in England. Having a large Indian population, Indian restaurants seem to appear everywhere in England. In fact, Indian food is all I ever want to eat when I go to England.

Vindaloo: (Pronounced Vind-aloo) HOT HOT HOT !! This is one of the hottest dishes you can order. Again, it is made with various spices like curry, but it is very spicy. In fact, it’s so hot that I can’t eat and enjoy it. For my palate, the pepper dominates any other flavor and I cannot enjoy the dish. WARNING: this dish is not for a virgin Indian meal.

These dishes are typically accompanied by basmati (Indian white rice). But you’re missing out if you don’t order some delicious nann (pancakes) to eat with your curry. Part of the experience of eating Indian food is using your hands to soak up the sauce with the naan.

Although there are several types of naan, I recommend starting with something simple like plain nann or garlic. Usually you get 2 pieces, which is a lot of grace for 1 person. You may want to consider 2 orders for 2 and if there are leftovers left, they are great for breakfast in the morning.

Indian restaurants do not usually offer any side of vegetables with the main dishes. This is probably because many Indians are vegetarians, which is why vegetable starters are a main dish on their own. Indian curries tend to have very rich sauces and, along with rice and naan, they will fill you up quickly. But if you think it is necessary to order a vegetable, I recommend something with aloo (potato) or baigon (aubergine).

For drinks, Indian beer pairs well with Indian food. I usually enjoy a Taj Mahal with my food. If beer is not your thing, I recommend you try a Mango Lassi. It is a sweet and fruity drink that is like having a smoothie with dinner.

If you can still have dessert after your hearty meal, a good option is Kulfi. This is Indian ice cream, which generally comes in various flavors, with two common flavors being mango and pistachio.

Well, there you have it! This should give you enough information to give you the confidence to try Indian food.

Discover restaurants with Cachet

When traveling to new places, enjoying exquisite culinary experiences is often a top priority. Big cities obviously offer a variety of options to suit all budgets and food preferences, but when visiting a small town, finding restaurants that offer a palatable experience requires a strategic approach.

Look for the history, but don’t forget the local love

Historic sites, usually in the city center, guarantee a great atmosphere, but don’t be afraid to expand your research if the clientele appears to be strictly tourists. Walk around town, ask questions, read reviews, and see where the locals go. You may often be surprised when a restaurant’s exterior appearance, or even its name, hides an excellent culinary choice.

Be open to suggestions and do some research, especially if your visit will last a few days. There may be some restaurants to try. When considering a restaurant located in a hotel, find out what the locals think about the hotel too! If they support the hotel, it is usually a positive sign of the quality of the food and service there.

The signs of a great dining experience

Do you offer business happy hours, as well as lunches and dinners, or are they only open at certain times? Check the website for indications of a great experience. Obviously, the photographs would give a good idea of the decoration, the surroundings, the lighting and the atmosphere in general. Look out for white tablecloths, stainless steel utensils, bedding, and crystal glasses. That would also lead to suitable attractions. Some websites will specify a dress code; please pay attention to this and if you are concerned ask if it is enforced when booking.

The website may also display the wine list. The wine selection is a good indicator of an excellent dining experience. The wine list should match the types of cuisine on offer, indicate the full name of the winegrower, and offer a wide selection, by bottle and by glass, that will satisfy all types of wine lovers.

Don’t neglect what the menu can tell you

If the menu is available online, matching tastes and expectations will be a bit easier. The various appetizers, entrees, specialties, and sides on offer are certainly important in rating restaurants; those that offer a fusion of various cooking styles set the bar. There are dozens of cooking techniques, from amandine and browning to braising and sautéing. Read the menu carefully and ask questions. When online resources are not available, consult your hotel concierge for recommendations. Ask about table manners, menu options, and wine list.

Do not forget to leave comments

Good restaurants want to know how they can improve, so they are curious to know what their customers like best about them and if their business would be recommended. Find comment cards and fill them in, even if the experience was exactly what you expected, better, or even non-existent.

One of the best things about traveling without a strict budget is the pleasure of the culinary experience. Enjoy each region and city and share the best with others!
