Top Ten NFL Head Coaches

Here is my list of the ten most crafty, cool and fiery head coaches. Oh yeah, and winning helps your rank, too.

10. Jon Gruden: “Chucky,” as he’s known around the league for his hot temper and wild antics. Keyshawn Johnson actually thought he could call Gruden down once, he didn’t make that mistake twice. I thought Gruden was going to kill him, literally. But despite that, Gruden knows how to create high-powered offenses with little talent. Look what he did with the Raiders the year before they won the Super Bowl. Look what he’s doing with the Buccaneers. Making Jeff Garcia look good in what he does, surprisingly.

9. John Fox: Yeah I know, you quite like the Johns, but it was just a coincidence. Next John Madden right? Well, for today’s coaches, John Fox led the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2003 and the NFC Championship in 2005. He lost both, but he helped the Panthers get some much-needed recognition. They are not seen as the Houston Texans or the Cleveland Browns, people respect them.

8. Lovie Smith: Hard to respect a football coach named Lovie. But he’s probably dealt with it his whole life and he’s earned some respect. Bears fans love him now because he switched to his team in no time. He had them in the 2005 playoffs and in the 2006 Super Bowl. They lost to an incredible Indianapolis Colts team with a man named Peyton Manning, who has wanted a ring his entire career, but came up short against the Patriots. . Who knows how the Bears will fare this year as they are 5-3 and Kyle Orton will be out for a week or more. Training will make all the difference during this critical second half of the football season.

7. Mike Shanahan: He hasn’t won a Super Bowl in nine years, but he’s still a great coach who leads his team to the playoffs and AFC championships quite often. He’s more of a conservative coach than most, but he got him to where he is today.

6. Jim Zorn: After taking over from Joe Gibbs (those are big shoes to fill) he’s done an admirable job putting together a good team this year. They are likely to find a playoff spot and may be a sleepy pick to win it all this year.

5. Andy Reid: A great coach who has led his team to the Super Bowl but fell short against the New England Patriots. His Eagles have a lot of talent this year, they’re just capitalizing on it. They will be in a battle with the Cowboys for a possible third seed in the NFC playoffs.

4. Tom Coughlin: He won the Super Bowl last year and has fielded an almost better team this year, some say. Hard to believe considering they lost Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora on defense.

3. Bill Belichick: As hard as it is for me to want to put him on this list, I almost did. Considering all of his Super Bowl rings and managing to win without Tom Brady. Belichick is considered one of the bleaker coaches thanks to the Spy Gate controversy. Now we’ll see if he can win a ring without Tom Brady.

2. Tony Dungy: Yeah, they’re 4-4 right now. But they have a great coach who can turn any team around and he won a Super Bowl two years ago. Don’t forget he has one of the best quarterback/wide receiver combinations to play.

1. Jeff Fischer: I’m putting him at number one because he’s undefeated right now and that’s without Vince Young. Kerry Collins is winning games for him! He doesn’t have a superstar team, they just play well as a team. It will be interesting to see if they can go undefeated all year.

Bertha Koessler-Ilg and her Mapuche Indian tales

“COUNT THE MAPUCHE PEOPLE”

(The Mapuche people tell stories)

by Bertha Koessler born Ilg

Published by Mare Nostrum Ltda., Santiago – Chile, 2006

Edited by Rolf Foerster González

Translated by Lieselotte Schwarzenberg M., Ph.D.

ISBN, complete edition: 978-84-96391-10-9

ISBN, first volume: 978-84-96391-11-6

Printed in Chile

Although the translation of these books from German into Spanish had been requested and completed a few years earlier, the new edition of the Mapuche tales, compiled over long years of patient work by Bertha Koessler née Ilg in San Martín de Los Andes, Argentina, finally was launched in May 2007 in Santiago de Chile.

Bertha Koessler was German and was born in 1881 in Obernzell, Bavaria. As a child she spent some time on the island of Malta, where an uncle of hers was a German consul. There she searched for folkloric and traditional traits of the native peoples of that island. Later, after studying and graduating as a nurse in Germany, she married the young doctor Rudolf Koessler. Together they emigrated to Argentina and lived for a few years in Buenos Aires, working at the German Hospital in the city. However, her spirit of adventure had not yet been satisfied; Thus, after being informed that there was a small town called San Martín de los Andes in the Argentine Patagonia, far away and underdeveloped, where there was no doctor, they decided to visit the place and finally settled there permanently. Here they raised her family, and Bertha shared her time between her tasks as a mother and housewife and as an assistant to her husband. But she also spent a lot of time collecting old stories from the indigenous population of the region, many of whom came to see the doctor, and this was a job that she enjoyed very much. With some of these Mapuche Indians she was able to hold long conversations and little by little she gained their trust so that they finally became her friends.

She tells us that she usually had to go to great lengths to overcome the natives’ natural shyness and reluctance to reveal anything about their Mapuche origin, because it was thought to go against the commandments of their deities. However, little by little and with patience, Frau Bertha was able to gain her trust while she learned her language, Mapudungun. She must have mastered the language very well, as can be seen from the explanations in German that she adds to each Mapudungun term. In the evenings, having listened intently to the stories the Mapuche Indians told her, she would sit and carefully record them in German, inserting original Mapudungun expressions followed by German translations of her meaning.

Although Frau Bertha spoke seven languages, including Arabic and Mapudungun, German was her mother tongue and it is not only logical that she preferred to express her thoughts in this language, but it was also the correct procedure, as translators well know.

The collection of his manuscripts is very extensive and includes not only tales as such, but also a complete investigation of indigenous culture with poems, songs, prayers, magical practices, riddles, children’s games, traditions, and even a glossary of the Mapudungun language. This first part of his work was published in 1962 by the Institute of Philology of the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences of the National University of La Plata in Buenos Aires and has now been reprinted without changes. However, his collection of Mapuche myths and legends, tales and fables had not been published at all, possibly because they were all written in German. Despite Frau Berta’s best efforts to find people or a publisher who would show interest in the subject, compile and publish her work, she was unsuccessful. Thus many years passed and the valuable collection remained unpublished.

In his time, the Mapudungun language was generally not considered as important as, for example, Quechua or Guarani, which have been preserved and spoken by the natives of Peru and Bolivia and of Paraguay even after the Spanish conquest and colonial times. , to this day. . At present, this concept has changed in favor of Mapudungun thanks to important studies carried out by some Catholic priests, mainly Father Ernesto Wilhelm Moesbach, who lived and worked in the Chilean Araucanía region and published glossaries of the Mapudungun language (Voice of Arauco , first edition July 1944. Registration number 10492, printed in Padre Las Casas, Chile).

The Koessler family wanted to fulfill Frau Bertha’s wish to collect all of her grandmother’s stories and publish them in Spanish, even more so after Bertha Koessler died in 1965 without having been able to fulfill her goal. In Chile, the anthropologist Rolf Foerster and Juan Arribas, Director of the Spanish publishing house Mare Nostrum, among other personalities, took up the task and so, after many years and obstacles, Bertha Koessler’s collection of short stories landed on my desk with the task of translating them into Spanish. They make up two more volumes.

Although some themes, especially those referring to Mapuche customs and beliefs, are repeated throughout the large number of stories, it is of great interest to study the idiosyncrasies of these peoples. Many times the so-called “machis” (medicine women) and sorceresses appear who kept people in a state of fear through their witchcraft and curses, with which they could persecute those who did not obey their orders. They used to kidnap young girls and subject them to cruel slavery; their power could not be frustrated and therefore no one dared to challenge them. Until one day a young hero appears who confronts and defeats the monster, usually in great and dangerous adventures. Here we see a certain similarity with some European tales, such as those of the German Grimm brothers or Spanish knightly novels.

There are also stories of natural cataclysms and there is even talk of a long period of rain and darkness suffered by the Indians, which had been imposed on them by one of their deities. This reminds us of the biblical flood. The most dangerous of these gods and the one who is mentioned very frequently was the Pillán, who was supposed to live on the Villarrica volcano. He used to unleash terrible storms and smash mountains, forests, rivers and everything else that came to hand in his fury. In Chile we do know natural catastrophes such as earthquakes, floods, etc. Thus, the Mapuche stories reflect the geographic, meteorological and seismic reality of this part of the South American subcontinent.

Among the stories there are also historical episodes such as, for example, the exodus of a large Mapuche tribe that emigrated to the other side of the mountains, that is, to Chile, which they spoke of as a land of shadows and darkness, where water abounds and suffers from cold and bad weather conditions. Subsequently, these peoples returned to their original homeland in Argentina, where their fellow citizens ceded them some land so that they could return to live in their natural environment and according to their old customs. They also talk about wars between different tribes, which used to be very cruel and bloody and always ended with the winner kidnapping the women and taking all the property of the losers. Some stories speak of the Spanish invasion and the mistrust felt by the Indians against those warriors who knew how to shoot instead of fighting with arrows, “bolas” or hand-to-hand. They refer to the powerful king “Winka” (white man) who lived on the other side of the “great pond”, that is, the ocean, and who sent his soldiers to conquer new lands for him. However, they say that this king was kind and just, but that his armies committed all kinds of abuses against the Indians, openly violating the rules that his king had ordered them to follow. This is a very noticeable feature.

Stories about life after death, about the dead and their transcendent life are also present. The living usually communicate with the deceased, and they come out of the lakes, on whose soil they continue to exist. From there they return to visit their relatives and frequent their old homes. Sometimes they take a loved one with them into deep water, after which the end of the stories may be a temporary return to land or the final disappearance of the hero or heroine.

The translation itself was a long and laborious task, not without its difficulties, mainly due to the intention of reproducing as well as possible the simple, almost primitive language used by the Mapuches and that Bertha Koessler knew how to imitate so well in German. She uses many Mapudungun words, after which she immediately adds their meaning in German, thus clarifying quite precisely what the Mapuche narrator wants to express. However, it is not easy to reproduce the Mapuche way of speaking in Spanish. For this reason, the Spanish publisher found it necessary to edit the entire text of the primary translation to make it more fluent, although a large part of the fidelity of the original expression was lost with this. This was an unavoidable cost that had to be borne for literary reasons.

The publication of the magnificent work of Bertha Koessler is a great achievement. It is worth noting that, after so many years of the author’s frustration at not finding a publisher, her work was finally published in Chile and not in Argentina, where she lived and loved. However, it must be taken into account that the Mapuche people are much more numerous in our country than in Argentina, where they originate from.

The most overrated Fiesta Bowl in recent history

Well here I am, excited and ready to see another explosion at Ohio State! I mean, how many years does Ohio State have to be on public display, until it’s finally admitted that it’s one of the most overrated teams in college football? So I admit I’m not a Buckeye fan, not a big 10 fan, and as a fan of a non-BCS conference (WAC), I’m tired of being told over and over again what a great team Ohio State is. and then witnessing that once they get out of their conference and play a good team, they’re exposed. The last 2 bowl games were embarrassing for them and then the beating of USC earlier this season disgusted me and at the same time I was excited that we were going to witness it again last night at the Fiesta Bowl. I watched the game with high expectations of the Texas Longhorns, the team that many said should be No. 1 and play in the national title game on Thursday.

Boy was I disappointed! Texas’ first drive ended with no first downs and a punt and my son, Aaron, says to me, “Dad, it’s normal for a team to start slow,” to which I agreed. Then, late in the first quarter, with Ohio State leading by a field goal (3-0), I was really beginning to wonder where this highly regarded Texas team was at. I mean, this couldn’t be the same team that beat Oklahoma and played in what I consider to be the best game of the season, against Texas Tech, could it? This couldn’t be the same team with Heisman runner-up Colt McCoy!

Then the second quarter goes back and forth and finds them down 3 (6-3) at halftime and I sent an email to one of my friends that said “Sorry to say Texas is getting bombed right now.” What a disappointment! I mean, Ohio State’s Wells was running all over Texas’ vaunted defense and making them look like anything but a #1 caliber team.

Then comes the third quarter and Texas finally comes to life and I started to get excited that they were finally going to beat the Buckeyes! They scored 2 unanswered touchdowns and were up by 11 points (17-6) Yes! But unfortunately, my excitement was short-lived. In the 4th quarter, Ohio State scored an unanswered field goal and 2 touchdowns, the only silver in the lining being that they missed both of their 2-point conversion attempts, so they were only up by 4 (21-17). Then, with 2 minutes left on the clock, Texas comes to life and charges downfield, scoring a controversial 4th down conversion and scoring a touchdown with 16 seconds left, making the final score 24-21. . Although it was an exciting ending to the game, what a disappointment it was! With the exception of the third quarter, Ohio State dominated the entire game and totally battered the Longhorns! This is the same Ohio State that lost to Penn State that lost to USC in the Rose Bowl, in a much more exciting bowl game I might add. My only consolation in all of this is that the Big 10 go 1-6 in bowl games this year. I know the WAC was 1-4, but we’re supposed to be that bad, right? The Big 10 is a BCS conference and therefore top!

Texas, YOU ARE NOT A #1 TEAM! Utah would fuck you! My team the Boise State Broncos would be with you and probably beat you! Florida would destroy you and USC would crush you! After the game, Coach Brown made an astonishing statement, after being prodded over and over again by the reporter. He said that Texas could beat any team in the country. How funny! Now, if Oklahoma beats Florida in the national title game, I’m going to have to reconsider most of what I just said.

Notice I said the majority. I saw the Sugar Bowl last Friday. Utah roughed up the #2 SEC team and beat them on a neutral field, which can realistically be called a home field for Alabama, by a larger margin than Florida beat them at home. So Texas beats Oklahoma, Florida beats Alabama at home, Utah beats Alabama by a larger margin on the road. What does this all mean? It means the BCS is full of shit when they try to tell us that these teams are the best of the best.

Anyone who watches college football knows that any team on any given day (Appalachian State vs. Michigan) can win. I am a fan of bowling and love this time of year but with each game like Utah vs Pitt (2005), Boise State vs Oklahoma (2007), Utah vs Alabama (2009) and finally Texas vs Ohio State (2009) more and more more people are realizing that the BCS is a faulty system and the only real answer is a PLAYOFF. Unfortunately for us, we are not the ones making these decisions.

Chicken with slightly Sicilian mozzarella from Don Tano Bongiorno

Chicken is, and always has been, a popular nutritious dish. There are as many ways to prepare a delicious chicken dinner as there are countries with their different recipes and tastes.

Today I am sharing a chicken recipe that my mom used to make for us when we were little. She smiles down on us from heaven today knowing that she did a good job. None of us turned out to be criminals and none of us got involved with the mob. Also, I always assure concerned tourists going to Palermo that the mobsters no longer carry submachine guns. They carry briefcases full of hundred dollar bills and they buy what they want instead of killing people for it.

Where was it? Oh yeah, my mom’s chicken recipe: chicken with mozzarella.

Okay, first go for some boneless, skinless chicken breasts. If you have large eaters, you might consider one and a half per person, or maybe even two, and unless you have your own little garden at home, you should pick some fresh basil leaves. (Hey, if it doesn’t have basil, it’s not Italian. What can I say?) And last but not least, a small block of mozzarella cheese. You could get the slices, but that’s not as good as I’ll show you.

Now, on a clean cutting board, place the chicken breasts, smooth side up, and cut several horizontal slits in the top, about a half-inch deep.

Set that oven to about 400º.

You can line a pan with aluminum foil, if not, at least spray it with nonstick spray. Arrange chicken breasts and insert a basil leaf into each open cut, half a slice of fresh tomato (Roma is great, but any tomato will do). Add a thick slice of mozzarella cheese. And as a final touch, sprinkle a thin slice of fresh garlic.

Now lightly brush or drizzle a thin layer of olive oil over the chicken. Some people like what they call Italian seasoning, but I prefer just salt, pepper, a little sugar, and maybe a dash of oregano.

Marsala (pretty much Sicily’s national drink!) goes great with this, but don’t drink the whole bottle because you might burn your chicken.

After about twenty minutes, you should check the chicken. I use one of those little metal skewers that they test cakes with. If it comes out clean, the chicken is done. If not, at that point you can simply turn off the oven and let the chicken sit in for another ten to fifteen minutes.

While this is going on, you can boil any pasta choice: spaghetti, rigatoni, mostaccioli, or maybe some nice elbow macaroni. Kids love that and I bet dad loves it too.

For a nice sauce, toss a handful of lightly minced garlic into a pan with olive oil, and while it’s getting very hot, toss in some sliced onion, celery, and green peppers. Once it looks fairly done, add a little broth or, if it’s not available, use a little beef or chicken broth or tomato powder with a teaspoon of water per cup. Not too much. Just what you think you’ll need for the family.

Once it has boiled for a few minutes, strain, add a can of tomato paste and maybe a can of diced tomatoes and return to a boil for a few minutes.

Served with a green salad and freshly grated Parmesan cheese at the table, you’ll have a great dinner and the family will think you really love them, even if it’s just routine cooking.

Ingredients:

1. Chicken Tano

  • One to 1-1/2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts per person

  • A pound of Mozzarella cheese

  • Two/three fresh Roma tomatoes

  • Three/four cloves of fresh garlic

  • olive oil

  • A quarter pound of fresh basil leaves

2. Pasta

Pasta of choice according to package directions for amounts

3. Sauce

A pint of broth (canned broth, beef, chicken or tomato is fine).

Bring to a boil and add:

  • chopped celery

  • chopped onion

  • Chopped pepper

  • finely chopped fresh basil (using leftover chicken stuffing

  • a small can of tomato paste

  • a can of diced tomatoes

The sauce should be simmered until slightly thickened.

The power of words in prayers and mantras

In the book of James in the Bible chapter 4 and verse 8 it says draw near to God and God will draw near to you, and here is an important key that is also taught by the main religions. That is, by repeating mantras and prayers slowly, gently and silently, you connect and become one with what the name, word or sound represents. As you do this, you will feel deep love, light, beauty, peace, ecstasy, and an expansion of consciousness into new awareness and wisdom.

Using this practice along with focusing on your heart is one way to discover the love and beauty that lives within you. The more deeply you allow yourself to feel the love, beauty, and light that naturally resides within you, the more you will feel tremendously calm, whole, nurtured, supported, safe, connected, comforted, and loved. Do not underestimate the importance or profound nature of this practice. This is the establishment of your connection and awareness with who you really are that has been there, present with you all along. By not paying attention to it you have missed it. Now, by paying a little attention to it every day, you will discover some amazing truths about your real nature and your deep divine truth.

Many have found that repeating specific words and sounds can help open and integrate a person with their deepest spiritual connections. You may be drawn to words or phrases that come up more than others, perhaps due to previous religious background and associations. I suggest that you try several until you find the ones that have the most meaning and effect for you.

Mantras are words or phrases used to facilitate transformation and spiritual realizations. There is value in the vibrations that sounds produce, as well as in the meaning and intentions behind words and sounds.

Suggestions for the use of mantras

1. Use only one or two mantras in any given meditation session.

2. Repeat the word or phrase out loud several times and then begin to repeat it silently.

3. Even if you are repeating the mantra silently, you will find it helpful to move your lips.

4. This process is often found to be most effective when done in the middle of the night or early in the morning.

5. There are often changes or advances at 20 minutes, 40 minutes and 60 minutes.

6. As you repeat the mantra try to connect more and more deeply with the intention behind the words or sounds.

7. Use one or at most two mantras for a particular meditation session. Repeat it silently to yourself and be aware that the embodiment of the mantra lives within your heart.

The realization of your divine nature and the Supreme Self is the goal of mantra practice. Listen and tune in to the qualities that emerge within you as you repeat the mantra. A message will reveal itself to you as you continue this practice. Here are some common mantras from various traditions that are simple and effective.

sai ram

om shanti (peace mantra)

branch (Name of God. The one who fills us with permanent joy)

Om Namah Shivaya. Greetings to Shiva. I bow (or surrender) to Shiva.

Shiva is the Consciousness that dwells in everyone and everything. The shape of it consists of sat chit ananda – Existence, Consciousness and Bliss. Shiva he is also sometimes seen as the destroyer, the one who destroys the sins and impurities of those who repeat the mantra. Each syllable of this mantra has a meaning. Namah Shivaya has 5 syllables which are the form of the 5 elements.

N/A = Earth; Me = Water; shi = fire; Let’s go = air; Already = ether.

A final word on mantras

Of course, there are hundreds of other mantras to choose from and you will probably feel more comfortable using those based on familiar traditions, but you should experiment with others as well.

After repeating the mantra for the designated time, you have decided to make the mantra stop and remain in a state of peaceful stillness or bring a query to mind. Allow God consciousness to reveal itself to you in whatever form it emerges. Surrender to the stillness and allow yourself to receive.

Speak in the stillness and ask for further clarification or elaboration. Questions like “Is there anything important I need to know right now?” So be receptive to see or hear what comes up. Periodically ask, “Is there anything else I should know?” or “tell me more”. Allow ideas to surface. They may come as flashes or glimpses. Sometimes they come as single words, sometimes as feelings, and at other times deeper insights develop.

The Big Red Envelope’s Best Kept Advertising Secrets

Two years ago, I interviewed a self-publishing millionaire who had sold 500,000 copies of his Special Effects Cookbook and had a great way to get free publicity.

This is what he said…

“As a cookbook author, I’ve been on a full page in the food section of a newspaper, in full color. The entire front page is my face, my story, and all my contact information. And if you get a big story in Boston or Los Angeles or Chicago or New York, millions of people are going to see that.

I’ll tell you what happened to him…

When a whole story is published in a big city like that, you sell a lot of books! And he did!

As a self-published author, advertising becomes your new best friend. And in most cases, there is no perfect time to launch an ad campaign for your self-published book. You do it practically all year long.

He started sending press releases through the mail during a time when email wasn’t as big of a deal, but even now, email doesn’t work that well. Neither fax. Instead, direct mail is the way to go. There are special ways to do direct mail. You put your press release in a big red envelope and use a magic marker for the return address and just write big letters all over it to make this envelope look really special. I’m talking about a big red envelope, 8 x 10, #10. You can get them at Staples.

Just be outrageous. Like the guy in the red suit, he walks into the room and you have to see him.

So you send your press release in a big red envelope and with a black magic marker you write the guy’s name in big black letters. Use a couple of stamps and handwrite the address. You only need ten a day.

He makes hundreds a year for his book. You can do a little every day to get that steady stream of interest from TV, radio, or newspapers, the latter of which may work better because you can get an article; usually a full page.

It puts an 800 number on the press release and a computerized system where everything is automated that can handle 10,000 calls simultaneously. Calls can come directly to you from the press release.

The way a press release works and looks is if you have to follow a format. At the top of the press release, in the upper left corner, simply enter your name and office phone number for immediate publication. You can leave a number with an answering machine, but I don’t recommend it. You want to handle all media contacts yourself.

The person who calls you is usually a journalist and they have an editor. And the whole point of writing a press release in the format I recommend is that you’re not selling anything. You can’t sell anything with a press release. Make them look good with your story. When they go to their publisher and say “hey Mr. Editor, I found this great story”…it makes the publisher look good so they let you write and let them sell it for you. It works as a thousand wonders. it really does

If you want your sales to skyrocket, put together an ad campaign that will get you noticed. Be unique. Let them know that there is no one like you out there. Use his advice on the use of this great red envelope. Works.

thanksgiving football

fun and games they are always an inevitable part of entertainment for young and old alike. People in the United States celebrate this festival of charitable giving through their avid participation in the game of football that brings waves of pure joy and delight into the hearts of multitudes of soccer fans who are crazed with soccer mania during this festive season. Through the years, football has become one with this joyous festival of Thanksgiving.

Many interesting traditions deeply permeate the Thanksgiving festival, such as the football game that complements this festival of revelry. Professional football was the last of the contemporary trends to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving. In 1874, eleven years after Lincoln’s proclamation, the first intercollegiate football the game was played. Two years later the Intercollegiate Football Association was formed in the Northeast, which instituted a championship game primarily to amuse people in Thanksgiving Day. Every year strong competitors like Princeton and Yale vied with each other to take the most coveted winner’s trophy. Players, students, and fans would wear their school’s colors as a mark of representation with banners flying high from New York City carriages, hotels, and commercial establishments. Us Thanksgiving Day church services would end early to accommodate fans, and the game would kick off the football season. celebration for New York’s social elite. It had gained such popularity that soon, by the mid-1890s, 120,000 athletes from colleges, clubs, and high schools participated in 5,000 thanksgiving football games across the country.

The custom of watching a football game on Thanksgiving Day evolved during the first decades of the 20th century. As soccer made its way into the hearts of the people, winning the hearts of millions, giving it great popularity as early as the 1920s and 1930s, and earning the highly prestigious position it enjoys today, many people began to visit the football stadium to see the same. Big name teams playing for the world famous. Soccer League of America eventually established the tradition of playing nationally televised games on Thanksgiving afternoon. In addition to the conventional competition organized by the nationally recognized Soccer League In America, many high schools and colleges also host “Turkey Day“football games over Thanksgiving weekend, often between regional or historic rivals. However, Thanksgiving football, played in America’s schools and universities, has now more or less faded away forgotten in most sections of the country and is kept alive in only two franchise cities of this world-renowned football league of americanamely Detroit and Dallas, where thanksgiving football it is very much a way of life.

thanksgiving football it is most often associated with the Lions team and a tradition that has been popular since 1934 in the city of Detroit. The game has been the brainchild of GA Richards, the first owner of the team with ferocious lion as quality players that make up the team. In fact, four generations of Detroiters have been a proud part of the American celebration of Thanksgiving. Some 71 years later, Michigan fans have transformed a local event into an annual holiday event, shaping it into the largest tradition in Michigan history. American professional sports team. In fact no other team in professional Sports can pretend to be so apart of a american party like that team with ferocious lion as player team with Thanksgiving. This team has hosted a game every Thanksgiving since 1934, with the exception of 1939-1944 due to World War II. The Dallas have also hosted football games every Thanksgiving. since 1966.

So we find that it all had its genesis in 1934 when a local radio executive, GA Richards, bought the Portsmouth, Ohio Spartans and moved the team to Detroit, the Motor City. Tea lions being a newcomer to town had taken a backseat to Tigers Baseball in the sports pages. Richards had practical reasons for scheduling the game on Thanksgiving, as he was also smart enough to realize that the best way to publicize the team would be to go with the Thanksgiving contest to attract fans. Motor City fans during the teams’ first season. . The fierce confrontation between the lions and the invincible World Champion, that is, the robust Bears from Chicago It turned out to be an all-time classic. Tea lions were exceptionally good with eight wins to their credit, leading them into their entry alongside the Bears with a 10-1 record. But Chicago had an even better record by occupying a commanding position with 11 straight wins. The match then reached an interesting phase in which a victory in the only fateful game would ensure if the lions will tie for first place with Bears. Two weeks before that fateful game, 26,000 tickets were sold out for the “Turkey Day” clash at the University of Detroit Stadium. Richards wasn’t bummed out by the past two losses, but rather pleased with the way his team performed in his first year. His faith and trust in the team was well rewarded when lions won the 1935 popular America’s football league championship. The final game was scheduled for Thanksgiving when the Lions defeated the Bears 14-2 to take the Western Championship trophy. Radio with its enormous advertising potential was used as bait to capture an audience. Richards, along with the nationally recognized broadcasting company, established a network of 94 stations to broadcast the lions bears confrontation. Since then, the league conventionally schedules two nationally televised games on Thanksgiving, usually featuring the famous Football players from Dallas, one of the most successful and popular franchises in sports and the players from Detroit, one of the least successful.

2006 will be the 87th season of the globally acclaimed football and is supposed to run from September 7 to New Year’s Eve, December 31. Ideally, three games have been scheduled to be played on the Thanksgiving Day. In addition to the traditional annual game between the world-renowned football players from Detroit and Dallas home games on that day, the Kansas City Chiefs, who hosted games during their NFL days, will revive that tradition at 2006 hosting the Denver players on Thanksgiving. All of these games are scheduled to be broadcast in prime time.

Friends and family across the United States often prefer to huddle around their radio or television to watch the live broadcast of the game while eating the special dishes prepared to commemorate. Thanksgiving. Therefore, each Thanksgiving revives the old and classic tradition of enjoying a football game as part of the celebration. For decades, football and by Thanksgiving you’ve established a strong bond, leading to an adrenaline rush.

Talk: Mike Matheny’s letter to youth baseball parents

Mike is a man of strong character and shares his strong ethics with the players he coaches. I agree with about 80% of what he has said in the letter to the parents. I’ll give my opinion on a couple of things that I think Mike might understand.

When I was in the dirt with my players, I had very little parenting issues. The ages of the children that I was given the responsibility of coaching were between the ages of 12-15. Prior to that, I was part of a team of other coaches, working primarily with my son Jeff.

I had a parent meeting with a handout and explained the rules similar to what Mike says about player and parental responsibility. My parents were directly involved with my program and were part of the success. The team needed help with fundraising and travel arrangements. We were a baseball family and with the help of my coaches and associate coaches we were a formidable group. We weren’t a test team like a lot of the road teams in St. Louis. I had all the local guys and we won a lot and we were always able to win or compete against the selected teams.

My concern with Mike is on the subject of emotions. I can’t see a player who is a competitor who is busting his butt on the diamond not being able to show emotion. I would teach my players that when you make a label, you have to sell it. I’m a great competitor and most young athletes are the same way. If there is a play at second base and the runner is definitely out, the player showing no emotion is ridiculous! What needs to be done is for the coach to let the players show emotion, but not to show the referee by arguing. Players will never argue with the referees, the player can say “Got it” and then walk away and let the coach take care of the situation. That’s what a good coach is for, and he needs to approach the referee firmly and tell him I think you missed the call. Then smile and listen to what he says and then walk back to the bench. I think this is the perfect way to lead a youth team on this issue.

In my opinion, this level of baseball is strictly about player development. I told my players and parents that I was preparing my players for high school and beyond. He wasn’t as concerned with the referee calls as he was more concerned with playing the game the right way. We had a play where my third baseman dove to the left of him and threw to his knees to first; the ball was on the ground but was picked up. The referee said that the runner was safe. My trainers went crazy, I calmed them down real quick and told them that Ross and Brett did everything the right way. It was very good baseball!

I can’t imagine fans at a baseball game silently without shouting support for the players. I wouldn’t expect my parents or fans to act this way in a game. What should not be tolerated is arguing from the stands with a referee or verbally abusing the other team. When he was on the ground, he always managed the referees and always had the respect of the men in blue. Head coaches need to understand that they are in charge of keeping their entire baseball family in check. I can’t imagine “Come on, come on, you can do it” adds more pressure to the player. I think this shows support for the player and the team. I can’t imagine being at a baseball game and not hearing the fans rooting for the players.

Mike also writes about the loss of respect because kids hear their parents complain about teachers or coaches. Mike goes on to say that his father taught him that Coach is always right, even when he is wrong. I do not agree with this at all, I would not want my son to be a robot, yes, a person, so as not to think for himself and agree with a coach who is wrong. I think we need more people to stand up and say what’s right and what’s wrong. I must say that this is one of the reasons why I started this business: to improve training at all levels. I think the game of baseball should be played a lot better, and the reason it’s not better is because of poor preparation. I see so many mistakes at the major league level that shouldn’t be happening. I’m talking about the little things and also the basic things that major leaguers need to know. I have many veterans who feel the same way I do on this issue.

Bottom line, we need baseball coaches who are hardworking, honest, responsible, and really know how to teach the game. Mike is one of those coaches and I disagree with him on the emotions of the game.

George Washington is Class of A-10

It’s no surprise that the Colonials have been in the top 20 for most of the year. What’s amazing is that they’ve basically flown under the radar for most of this year, despite returning four starters from last year’s team that won 22 games, the Atlantic 10 tournament title, and clinched its first NCAA tournament bid. since 1999. This is a seasoned deep team about to do some damage in March.

This year’s edition of The Colonials is the culmination of a two-year master plan by HC Karl Hobbs. In 2004, as Xavier and St Joe’s swept the Atlantic 10 en route to the Elite Eight, Hobbs played with his sons and went on to win 18 games, plus earn an NIT wild card. Last year’s club returned to the top seven scorers of 2004 and won the conference before losing to Georgia Tech in the first round of the Big Dance.

The 2006 edition returns intact except for the unsuspecting TJ Thompson (13.2 ppg), whose long-range shooting and leadership will be sorely missed. Thompson had started 117 straight games for the Colonials before graduating. While Thompson is a significant loss, Hobbs would rather see the glass 4/5 full than 1/5 empty.
And for good reason. George Washington is 10-1 and the only team in the Atlantic 10 with five players averaging double figures.

The Colonials are led by guard JR Pinnock, who is averaging 15.4 points per game. Pinnock was the A-10 Sixth Man of the Year last year and will be seriously considered for Player of the Year this year. Pinnock is joined in the backcourt by floor general Carl Elliot, who is averaging 11.1 points per game while losing 4.4 cents per outing. Both guards are 6’5″ and solid rebounders.

PF Mike Hall is second in scoring with 13.1 points per game and also captures 7.6 boards. A tireless worker, Hall has a non-stop drive and has become the heart and soul of the team. SF Omar Williams 7.3 ppg has selflessly put his game on hold to become the best defensive stopper on the team. His extra-long wingspan makes him particularly annoying to opposing scorers.

In the center we have second team A-10 and first team All-Name, Pops Mensah-Bonsu. Pops arrives via London and is the most athletic of the Colonials. Bonsu averages 11.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Pop’s biggest problems have been fouls (he defies everything, 130 blocks in his career) and free throws (he makes Shaq look like Steve Kerr).

Maureece Reece is a talented sophomore guard who is first out of the pine tree. Reece broke many of Wilt Chamberlain’s long-standing HS records in Philadelphia and is averaging 11.3 points per game in his debut season. Freshman Montrell McDonald (5.8 ppg) and LSU transfer Regis Koundija (4.3 ppg/2.7 ppg) are the other key reserves getting double-digit minutes.

Before tonight’s game against St. Louis, the Colonials’ only loss was a 79-58 blowout to a very tough team from North Carolina State. The Wolf Pack is in the top 10 in the country in almost every statistical category and is #1 in %GFR Allowed. NC State limited GW to just 31% shooting, which might have been somewhat helped by a scheduling quirk that saw the Colonials go without a game the previous fourteen days. George Washington has quality wins against Maryland and Temple.

George Washington has gotten off to a relatively slow start against points this year at 3-2, but should be profitable in certain situations during A-10 play. The Colonials are 25-15 over the past three years as favorites and a fattening 24-13 wallet in A-10 play. Talented, experienced and deep. Keep an eye out for George Washington as you’ll likely see many more in March!
