Bahamas Bimini Island – A Paradise of Endless Beauty and Tranquility

The Bahamas’ Bimini Island is the closest island to America and is a very popular destination for Americans. Bimini Island is 40 nautical miles from Miami, Florida and offers a perfect getaway to the popular Bimini Island vacation. Bimini Island is made up of a chain of islands, with the largest islands being North and South Bimini.

Bimini Island is a couple of hundred feet wide and a couple of miles long and provides the most sparkling clear water and underwater visibility to 80-100+ feet. The island of Bimini is located between the Grand Bahama bank and the Gulf Stream, surrounded by many cays that offer views of crystal clear waters. The island was discovered by Ponce De León in the early 1500’s. The island is also world famous for sport fishing, numerous games are organized on this island for locals and tourists.

The two main highways are the King and Queen highway. North Bimini spanned seven miles in length which is approximately 11 kilometers and two hundred and ten meters wide. The main town in North Bimini is Alice Town, which is home to numerous shops, bars, and restaurants around King’s Highway. The south is known for the Biological Field Station, an extension of the University of Miami that studies marine ecosystems. The field station is known locally as Shark Lab. Compared to North Bimini, the South offers a peaceful setting for those seeking a spiritual connection. There is a small airport in South Bimini to connect with another island and the outside world. Popular activities on Bimini Island are fishing, scuba diving, boating, and snorkeling.

How to get to Bimini Island

The new airport is in South Bimini, tourists can take TAXI or private cars from the airport to the nearest ferry. Ferry time from South Bimini to North Bimini is five minutes, where the main attraction is located. You can get to Bimini either by seaplane, plane or boat, if you are adventurous take the sea route.

The best way to explore Bimini is on foot, by bike, or in a golf cart. That’s all you need to explore North Bimini. While you can eat, shop and drink on King’s Highway where most of the shops are located, then head to Queens Highway where most of the beaches are located. The best time to visit Bimini is from April to July, when the sea is calm and perfect for fishing and snorkeling. Most of the tourists visited during this period.
