As the story goes, once upon a time there was a farmer and his family. They lived and farmed in a huge and beautiful valley, right next to an equally huge and beautiful mountain range.

Each year, when the seasons reached late summer and early fall, the farmer and his sons began storing hay in their barns for the winter. Some years they stored just a little for the winter, some years they stored much more.

One year, they started storing hay earlier than ever. The farmer told his children that it was going to be a very long and cold winter. As each week began, the farmer would instruct his sons to store more and more hay.

And then, as they went further and further into the fall, the farmer and his sons doubled the amount of hay they stored in the barn.

The father said, “Sons, we have to store more hay than ever before. It’s going to be a winter like we’ve never seen.”

A son, who was a little tired of storing more and more hay, asked his father how he could know that it was going to be a tougher winter than ever. The father replied, “Son, you are old enough for me to tell you the secret of how I know how hard a winter will be. Every year, I look up at the big mountain where the Indians live. On the mountain, the Indians keep firewood for winter, some years in mild winters keep little, other years in particularly harsh winters keep much more.

So I know how cold winter is going to be by looking at how much wood the Indians store. Now that you know my secret, let’s get down to business, because the Indians just saved more firewood yesterday.

Another son, fed up with storing so much hay, took one of his younger brothers on a trip to the mountains to talk to the Indians.

“This is an old Indian custom. We always know how cold the winter will be by watching the farmer in the valley. The colder the winter, the more hay the farmer keeps!”

And so it is in many of our relationships. Whether in friendship, marriage, family, or work environment, we are prone to blame others for the way we behave in the relationship.

The line goes something like this,

So the question is, as in the story of the farmer-Indian, what is your contribution?

Do you do any of the following?

=> Waiting too long.

=> Wait very little.

=>Have a preconceived bias against the other person.

=> Misinterpret something they have said or done and then fail to verify their perception.

=> Wait/demand that the other person changes first.

=> Wait/demand your way.

=>Do the silent treatment or some other way to exclude the other person.

So what is to be done? Three steps:

1) Identify your contribution.

2) Take responsibility whether you like it or not.

3) Change your contribution.

Essential oils are becoming more popular today as people discover the powerful effect they can have on not only the physical body but emotional healing as well. There are differences in the oils that are sold in health food stores, grocery stores, and on the Internet. The low price of an essential oil can signal a warning to you, and also if the bottle says “not for internal use,” that’s another red flag. When you put any oil on your skin, it is absorbed into the body internally. The FDA requires the manufacturer to add that warning to their label if there are additives or if the oil has been adulterated. When adulterated and cut with synthetic extenders they can cause rashes, burning and skin irritations. All solvents can cause allergic reactions, in addition to lacking therapeutic effects.

If your body is very acidic, even therapeutic grade essential oils can show a skin reaction with a red rash. This is a personal red flag for you letting you know that your body is very acidic, which means you have a lot of inflammation in your body. It is the inflammation in the body that can kill you.

There are 4 grades of essential oils:

1. Grade A oils are pure therapeutic grade and are usually made from organically grown plants distilled at the proper temperature using steam distillation.

2. Grade B oils are food grade; They may contain synthetics, pesticides, fertilizers, extenders, or carrier oils.

3. Grade C oils are perfume grade and may contain the same type of adulterant chemicals as food grade oils. They usually contain solvents, which are used to obtain a higher yield of oil per harvest. Solvents are normally cancerous.

4. Floral Water is a by-product of the distillation process, of very high quality if it comes from a Grade A distillation process. Consequently, it is of low quality if it comes from poor quality raw materials and/or poor distillation processes . It is usually found in skin and hair products.

When the essential oil is Grade A and therapeutic grade quality, it can be of great benefit to the body. Many people use them as an alternative to prescription drugs. With therapeutic grade essential oils there are no negative side effects as is common with prescription drugs. Let me share with you a graph that I found very interesting.

Also, if you do that, you’ll have a series of short videos to be able to post to Facebook (YT) or even Vimeo, which takes a lot more work. Last time I checked, Jing Pro is $15 a year. It is not a bad alternative for creating screen videos. A great additional feature is that you can upload directly to your YT account. Very easy. Keep in mind, though, that you can make videos up to a few gigabytes in size (regarding adding them to YT). You will have to get movies that generate enough traffic before YT will help you upload longer video tutorials.

Two. Camtasia Pro Recording: Camtasia is also through TechSmith. Brilliant device but requires much more technical training to be able to navigate. Much more features than Jing, but I use it almost daily. Whether I’m making a video tutorial or even providing a project to my personal marketing assistant (VA), this can be the best option for sure. It has all the features involving Jing and more. For me, Camtasia Pro is like driving a Ferrari compared to Jing.

Three. Bitly: The days of building a website and thinking someone will just visit your site are over. Bitly is a web address shortener. Just set up a bitly account, join, type in your current website, and then it will give you the shortened, coded link. You can then get a new hyperlink to a web address that’s a little more unforgettable to suit your needs and your audience. Most do not understand the benefits of web address shorteners. In real estate we want to see our own efforts. With Bitly you can do that. Important if you really want to decide if your efforts are progressing.
